A longtime collaborator of Fincher's is expected to lead the cast of the sequel film. ]]>
<![CDATA[

David Fincher has been tapped to direct a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Quentin Tarantino on board as a script writer and a leading man in Brad Pitt. 1b4zg

That’s enough buzzy names to send cinephiles into a downright tizzy (David and Quentin and Brad, oh my!), but those aren’t the only titillating details surrounding the film. It has been reported that the project, a follow-up to the original, Tarantino-directed first installment released in 2019, is being eyed for distribution on Netflix, where Fincher has a first-look deal. We also know that Pitt’s starring role will see him reprise the character of Cliff Booth, the Hollywood stuntman who appeared in the first film.

However, Pitt’s former co-stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, are not thought to have roles in Fincher’s sequel. Pitt-lovers (that came out wrong) have much to celebrate about this project, since his portrayal of Cliff scored him a Best ing Actor Oscar and his past collaborations with Fincher — including Fight Club, Se7en and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button — are among his most acclaimed to date.

Even with all that, there’s still more lore surrounding this sequel (buckle up, Fincherheads!). If it lands on Netflix, the film will mark Fincher’s third collaboration with the streamer, with his first two movies, Mank and The Killer, both sharing themes with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. What’s more, the sequel will be among the very few films that Tarantino has written but not directed, ing that exclusive club alongside Tony Scott’s True Romance and Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk till Dawn

News of the project comes after Tarantino scrapped plans for what would have been his 10th (and supposedly final) movie, The Movie Critic. While dreams of that project have been all-but dashed, Pitt was attached to star in The Movie Critic as some version of Cliff, who we’ll thankfully still get to see, albeit in the Fincher-directed sequel. Naturally, a project of this caliber attracted the attention of legions of movie buffs, who took to social media to respond to what will undoubtedly be splayed all over their Letterboxd s soon enough.

“NO WAY IS THIS A JOKE,” one wrote on X, with another adding “Fincher + Tarantino? This is gonna be EPIC!” Others quipped that “this is the craziest news I think we could have received in 2025,” or simply declared that “cinema is back.” Elsewhere, fans revelled in the collaboration between Pitt, Fincher and Tarantino, saying the sequel feels “like a group project but in a good way,” or announcing that the trio has them “sold.”

Even with all the details we do know, what’s less clear is the title of the film, which hasn’t yet been announced. Call me basic, but I would simply love it if they went for the completely obvious choice that is Twice Upon a Time in Hollywood. Regardless of where they land on the title, best believe I’m going to be insufferable on Letterboxd when this movie finally arrives, whenever that might be.

Maybe Tarantino is just getting old, and his memory is fading.]]>
<![CDATA[

When Piers Morgan has something to say, you know it’s going to cause a reaction. This time, his target isn’t a politician or a celebrity scandal — it’s none other than Quentin Tarantino. The outspoken host just gave a spirited response to the director’s less-than-flattering take on a beloved TV series.

What did Tarantino ever do to Morgan? Tarantino dared to call Yellowstone — yes, the wildly popular Western saga helmed by Kevin Costner — a mere “soap opera” that’s utterly forgettable once the credits roll. Well, Morgan wasn’t having it. He shot back on X, with a short, ionate retort to Tarantino’s critique: “Nonsense.”

The whole thing started when Tarantino appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience and turned his critical eye toward television, even singling out Yellowstone as an example of what he feels modern TV gets wrong. Sure, he itted to enjoying the first season, even calling it “great” and praising Kevin Costner’s performance. But his compliments came with a backhand: “At the end of the day, it’s all just soap opera.” Did he really reduce the show’s intense power struggles, land disputes, and murder plots to daytime drama territory? Sure, it’s a high-stakes soap opera with breathtaking Montana scenery and monologues sharper than Beth Dutton’s tongue, but a soap opera nonetheless, according to the Pulp Fiction mastermind.

Tarantino didn’t stop there, though. He claimed that, unlike a good Western film, Yellowstone lacks an emotional payoff. “I don’t the bad guys for Season 2 or Season 3. It’s out of my head. It’s completely gone,” he declared, as though the series had evaporated from his memory the moment he clicked “next episode.” For Tarantino, a great Western is like a tattoo on the soul —forever vivid and impossible to forget. For Yellowstone, he argued, the ink just doesn’t stick.

Morgan, of course, wasn’t alone in his defense. Fans had their own takes, some backing the talk show host’s rebuttal and others… well, agreeing with Tarantino but staying safely out of Morgan’s crosshairs. For a show that’s started as much obsession as Yellowstone, the conversation is as intense as the Dutton family drama itself.

As much as we love Yellowstone, we have to give some context here. Tarantino wasn’t exactly saying that the show is bad. He was talking about the state of television, and he took Yellowstone as an example because he actually thinks it’s one of the best shows out there right now. His point is that, unlike movies, shows can go on for a long time, and that’s why they are forgettable. When directors have the comfort to spread out the plot in 7 hours, the show will eventually have some “soap opera” fluff. Also, it’s easy to forget what happened in Season 1 when you are waiting for Season 2 for a whole year.

In the end, the Yellowstone debate boils down to two things: whether you measure greatness by lasting emotional resonance or by sheer, in-the-moment entertainment. One thing’s for sure, though— Morgan’s not forgetting the show anytime soon, no matter what Tarantino says.

Quentin Tarantino actually has a point, sometimes.]]>
<![CDATA[

Quentin Tarantino has had some bonkers takes over the years. From the diminutive, like saying he didn’t buy that Martin Scorsese was shocked by audiences celebrating the violence in Taxi Driver, to the confusing, like claiming he doesn’t consider George Clooney a movie star, to the funny, like insisting he looks like George Clooney. And then there are the absolute unconscionable takes, such as defending Roman Polanski against his rape charge involving a 13-year-old because they were “dating.”

Tarantino has delivered horrible takes throughout his 30-plus-year career, but every so often, he makes a good point — of course, between crafting generation-defining movies. This time, Tarantino caught the wrath of the internet for expressing his enjoyment of Joker: Folie à Deux. During his appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Tarantino shared that he liked the film’s musical scenes, praised Joaquin Phoenix’s performance as the best he’s ever seen, and felt flattered by the movie drawing inspiration from Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers, a film he wrote. Tarantino even remarked that the Joker sequel was the kind of movie he dreamed of seeing made from his script.

Now, of course, we disagree. Joker: Folie à Deux struggles to balance painting a sympathetic figure of its lead, while simultaneously critiquing the audience that embraced the original film. The sequel fails at serving both these masters. That aside, Tarantino is right: he still has every right to enjoy whatever movie he chooses. Variety reports that during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, he went on a profanity-laden mini-tirade, assuring everyone that he will, in fact, continue liking whatever he chooses regardless of what people say about him in the comment sections of articles reporting the story and that we can all do the same, saying, “You read the comments: ‘Quentin is a f-cking asshole. That movie f-cking sucks. He’s a f-cking asshole for saying that.’ Why am I a f-cking asshole? I liked the f-cking movie! That makes me a f-cking asshole? You either like the movie or you don’t.”

Tarantino also addressed criticism for not watching Dune, saying, “Then they’ll say I’m a f-cking asshole for not seeing something — what the f-ck do you care what I see or don’t see?” This stance is a bit bizarre, given that he was railing against franchise filmmaking when he made that claim, arguing that Dune exemplifies an era dominated by endless remakes. Even if we’re being generous, Joker is undoubtedly part of a franchise, while also borrowing heavily from Scorsese classics, and the sequel takes inspiration from Tarantino’s own work. So it’s not exactly breathtaking for its originality. Regardless, he’s right — nobody can watch everything. That said, his apparent issue with Denis Villeneuve fimmaking seems rooted in something deeper than he’s letting on.

At the end of the day, we’d all prefer to hear Tarantino sharing his thoughts on what constitutes a good movie rather than his views on other subjects. This is clearly his realm, and even when he’s wrong — and he is wrong on these two particular film takes — his opinions are harmless and often fascinating. Especially now as Tarantino nears his contentious retirement, it would be nice to have a figure like him continue guiding movie lovers worldwide on what to watch, even if those films are no longer his own.

Tarantino’s recent media appearances have been to promote The Video Archives Podcast, which he co-hosts with Pulp Fiction co-writer Roger Avary. The podcast, where they always bicker over movies, is a genuinely fun listen for cinephiles.

Ridley Scott is not having it!]]>
<![CDATA[

Ridley Scott has never been one to hold his tongue. After all, this is the same visionary director who made a black comedy about the Gucci family murder, and when challenged by the family, he simply said they should be “lucky” to have actors like Al Pacino portray them.

This time, it’s Quentin Tarantino who has attracted the uniquely hilarious ire of Ridley Scott’s words. Tarantino’s impending retirement has been the talk of Hollywood ever since he announced that he would only direct 10 films throughout his career and then retire. It’s especially rampant now, considering he’s technically already directed 9 (Tarantino counts Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2 as one film). For most people, filmmakers and fans alike, this seems far too soon.

Almost every media appearance Tarantino has made since making the announcement has led to questions about why he would cut his career short while still being so beloved and what he plans on doing afterward. As for his next steps, Tarantino has already begun his career as a novelist, releasing two books. But of course, it feels a bit like Michael Jordan’s first retirement from basketball, followed by a brief stint in baseball. We all feel like he’ll be back. So does Ridley Scott, who addressed the situation bluntly when speaking to The Hollywood Reporter: “Shut up and go make another movie.”

Scott was being interviewed for his new movie, Gladiator II, starring anti-content creator Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington. Scott can hardly relate to Tarantino’s more modest approach, considering he’s made 16 films in 20 years. Scott is honest with his self-assessment, though — he doesn’t consider all of those movies good. One of those 16 films is The Counselor, after all. But Scott’s refreshingly candid approach to his work allows him to avoid obsessing over what’s already been made, good or bad, and to focus on what’s coming next. The 86-year-old now looks up to 94-year-old Clint Eastwood, who has just released Juror #2, and hopes to continue making movies for that long.

As for Tarantino, he was recently a guest The Joe Rogan Experience, where he shared that the reason people are so upset about his retirement is because fans believe they should be the ones to decide when an artist retires at around the 1h 25th minute mark. While Tarantino’s perspective is understandable and there’s nothing inherently wrong with him wanting to protect his legacy as a director who never overstayed his welcome, it also comes across as overly cynical to view his fans as vultures waiting for his downfall. We’d be more accepting of his retirement if he said he’d said all he needed to say through his art, but anything less than that seems like overthinking on his part. Ultimately, though, it’s his choice. We just hope he makes a comeback after his 10th and final film.

Another surprising thing revealed in the interview was that Scott isn’t sure if he’s ever even met Tarantino, despite Tarantino’s frequent collaborations with his late brother, Top Gun director Tony Scott. Well, maybe now that Tarantino is retiring from directing and Scott wanting to keep directing into his mid-90s, Tarantino could resume his relationship with the Scotts and write some scripts for Sir Ridley.

Quentin Tarantino as a Todd Phillips and “Joker: Folie à Deux” stan wasn't on anyone's 2024 bingo card.]]>
<![CDATA[

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino loves cinema and talking about all the classics. Well, add Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux to the mix, because the Pulp Fiction director is a self-confessed fan.

As quickly as Joker: Folie à Deux danced into theaters, it waltzed its way right past the audience and headed straight to digital. For a film that cost $200 million to create, it barely scratched over $200 million worldwide. It didn’t exactly debut to stellar reviews either, as it holds 32% in both critical approval and the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. By all the metrics, this is nothing short of a bona fide flop and another major L for Warner Bros. Discovery to swallow as it continues to fumble the bag with DC properties.

Despite 2019’s Joker cracking over a billion dollars and securing an Oscar for Joaquin Phoenix, the sequel failed to land – even with the superstar casting of Lady Gaga as this universe’s version of Harley Quinn. The film also established itself as the laughingstock of 2024, and people can’t help but poke fun at it. Except for Quentin Tarantino.

Appearing on The Bret Easton Ellis podcast (via World of Reel), Tarantino raved about the movie and his experience watching it, claiming: “I really, really liked it, really. A lot.” The filmmaker gushed about the musical scenes, the humor, and drew positive parallels between the story of Arthur Fleck and Lee Quinzel and his own script for 1994’s Natural Born Killers. In fact, Tarantino suggested Joker: Folie à Deux could have been a movie from the perspective of Woody Harrelson’s Mickey Knox.

Phillips’ handling of the film impressed Tarantino, who provided an interesting perspective of how he sees it. He said:

“Todd Phillips is the Joker. The Joker directed the movie. The entire concept, even him spending the studio’s money – he’s spending it like the Joker would spend it, all right? And then his big surprise gift – haha! –the jack in the box, when he offers you his hand for a handshake and you get a buzzer with 10,000 volts shooting you – is the comic book geeks. He’s saying f**k you to all of them. He’s saying f**k you to the movie audience. He’s saying f**k you to Hollywood. He’s saying f**k you to anybody who owns any stock at DC and Warner Bros.”

Unsurprisingly, a lot of X s didn’t share Tarantino’s enthusiasm about the film, thinking that a director deliberately releasing a movie that antagonizes the audience isn’t the way to go. Others thought this sounded like a cheap copout from simply itting that Joker: Folie à Deux didn’t work and deserves the trashing it’s taking from everyone.

One filmmaker who doesn’t share Tarantino’s opinion of Joker: Folie à Deux is Paul Schrader. The Taxi Driver screenwriter told Interview Magazine that he watched the first 10 to 15 minutes of the movie, slipped out to go shopping, then came back in to watch another 10 minutes. In the end, it proved to be all too much for him and he left, calling the movie “a really bad musical.”

Different strokes for different folks, right? Hopefully, someone asks Tarantino for his opinion and thoughts on Venom: The Last Dance and if he felt the same fuzzy feeling while watching the dance numbers in that superhero spectacle.

"It would be a bucket list moment for her," a source said of Gaga's next move. ]]>
<![CDATA[

Lady Gaga has apparently seen all *those* negative reviews for Joker: Folie à Deux, but won’t let the critics stop her from pursuing even bigger and starrier film projects.

In case you missed it, the Joker sequel has been the subject of some pretty harsh reviews, receiving just a 33% score on Rotten Tomatoes and spawning some roast-worthy zingers from multiple reviewers. Mashable described Folie as an “atrociously grim and boring movie,” while The New York Times said it was a “dour, unpleasant slog” and Digital Spy labelled it “empty, lifeless and ultimately unnecessary.” Ouch!

All that criticism might explain why the sequel was hit with the lowest CinemaScore of any comic book movie history (a D), and also why it endured such a lacklustre box office performance. Amid the fanfare, it’s now being reported that Gaga — who starred as Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s namesake villain — isn’t too thrilled with all the naysayers.

A source close to the pop star turned actress said she is “disappointed Joker 2 was pretty much a bomb.” Speaking to The Daily Mail, the insider said Gaga “is surprised by the response to [the movie] and is shocked that people don’t love it,” especially considering the praise it received from critics before its audience premiere.

She put so much heart into the movie,” the source claimed, “and has so much respect for the DC comics fan base.” Adding insult to injury, the insider said Gaga’s disappointment is all the more intense because she thought Folie “could get her an Oscar nomination,” following Phoenix’s Best Actor win for the first instalment.

For what it’s worth, Gaga came close to achieving the feat in 2019, when she was nominated for Best Actress for her star-making role in A Star Is Born. Her chances of competing in the same category for the next Academy Awards are far slimmer, so it’s understandable that she’s feeling a little let down by all the Folie hate.

Nevertheless, Gaga remains committed to achieving Oscar glory despite all that disappointment, with the source saying the singer is now hell-bent on landing a part in Quentin Tarantino’s ever-buzzy project. “She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s next and final film,” the source claimed.

“Nobody knows what that is going to be, but she wants to audition.” The insider went on reveal that working with the acclaimed director would be a “bucket list moment for her,” and said Gaga is “going to lobby hard to get a meeting with him once a script is presented.”

Of course, landing the part will be a tricky task, since a Tarantino role is probably coveted by almost everyone in Hollywood, especially if the movie will be his last as he’s claimed in the past. While the source didn’t name which Tarantino project Gaga is eyeing, it’s safe to assume they’re referring to The Movie Critic, the director’s tenth and supposedly final film

Not much is known about The Movie Critic beyond its title as the final Tarantino film, but it’s been dogged by reports of being shelved, re-written, or scrapped altogether. We do know that it is set to follow a movie critic (duh!) who is cynical and disillusioned by his work at a pornographic magazine in the 1970s. Consider me intrigued.

As for Gaga’s involvement, I guess we can now add her to the list of actresses we’d love to see in the leading role, from Margot Robbie to the perpetual Tarantino muse, Uma Thurman.

He will not invest in the beloved franchise, even though its most recent entry was 'one of the best movies' he's ever seen.]]>
<![CDATA[

Sometimes we all suffer from sequel and reboot fatigue (with the rare exception of Shrek 5, because I love onions), but Quentin Tarantino has officially declared which franchise he refuses to invest in moving forward.

The Pulp Fiction director was recently interviewed on Bill Maher’s Club Random Podcast, where he revealed that despite his enjoyment of the first three entries, he will not watch the fourth or fifth installment of the Toy Story franchise. “I have no desire to see the fourth one,” Tarantino said of the most recent entry, which arrived in 2019. “You ended the story as perfect as you could, so I don’t care if it’s good, I’m done.” While that might dash the dreams of any Toy Story fan who vehemently believes their stuffed animals come to life when they’re not looking, Tarantino clarified that his decision to abstain from the Pixar franchise is borne out of love.

“In the case of Toy Story, the third one is just magnificent,” Tarantino said. “It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, and if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating.” That’s right folks, even a director who has an almost vampiric attraction to gore can be moved by a bunch of toys on their way to an incinerator (trigger warning), but he’s not about to invest in Toy Story 4’s Forky.

Perhaps Tarantino’s affinity for the franchise comes from its multiple shots of Woody’s boots, scrawled with the name Andy, since the director has a noted penchant for (oft-unmanicured) feet. In any case, he’s on to something when he refers to the Toy Story franchise as a trilogy, since the first three Oscar-nominated films follow Woody and the gang while they’re owned — and eventually donated — by Andy, before Bonnie overtakes the toy box in the fourth film.

Tarantino’s mention of the Pixar franchise was part of a broader discussion of trilogies, in which he named Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy as one that “completely and utterly works to the Nth degree.” Later, he cited the Mad Max franchise as one that wasn’t quite able to stick the landing. The director, who also made mention of his film The Movie Critic, might be saddened to learn that the Toy Story universe is only continuing to expand.

A fifth installment was announced by Disney earlier this year, with original Toy Story director Andrew Stanton on board to helm the project. Toy Story 5, which is said to follow the toys as technology takes over their kids’ lives, has a release date set for 2026, but don’t count on Tarantino being in the audience when the animation arrives in cinemas. Who knows, perhaps the Pixar Theory will one day include a bunch of animated feet, and Tarantino will be compelled to in once more.

<![CDATA[

Let’s be completely honest here: hardly anyone ever considers the possibility of celebrities liking anime, especially because until recently, it was almost a niche interest shared by a few people who shamefully whispered the word “otaku” online, almost as if it were a dirty little secret.

Thankfully, those days are far behind us now, and anime has finally gathered the legion of fans worldwide it deserves, with everyone unapologetically sharing their favorite anime on the internet. And, of course, celebrities are also ing the roster. Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of actors, musicians, and directors sharing their favorite shows and movies, but one thing that was often overlooked is exactly how many A-list celebrities actually have anime as their favorite medium — or at least, one of their favorites.

For that reason, we’ve compiled a list of some of the biggest celebrities who have time and time again shared their love for Japanese anime, undeniably considering themselves “weebs.”

Megan Thee Stallion 5w54h

At this point, we all know that the biggest anime fan among celebrities is the one and only Megan Thee Stallion — as if we ever needed more reasons to love her. From music videos to cosplays, and even song references, Megan incorporates her favorite anime in her craft time and time again. For this reason, we know that her favorite anime are Black Clover, My Hero Academia, Hunter x Hunter, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Attack on Titan. With just a few shy days away from presenting the 2024 Crunchyroll Awards, we can almost certainly affirm that we’re just as excited about the event as she is.

Of course, if BTS and Megan are besties, it only makes sense that one of the reasons behind their strong bond is their love for anime — friendships are sustained by common interests, after all. Over their decade-old career, several have shared their anime expertise time and time again (even J-Hope). With most of them being absolutely obsessed with filling their very limited free time with anime, we’ve come to discover over the years that many of their favorites are One Piece, Naruto, Dragon Ball, and Haikyuu!!!

Quentin Tarantino 29413y

Quentin Tarantino is a man of peculiar tastes, and apparently, anime is among them. While it’s not entirely surprising for a Western director to be an anime fan — most are assumed to have enjoyed some Studio Ghibli films — few have been as vocal about their favorite anime as Tarantino. According to the director, his top anime films include Ghost in the Shell and Blood: The Last Vampire. So much so, that he allegedly commissioned Production I.G to create O-Ren Ishii’s (Cottonmouth’s) backstory scene in Kill Bill: Vol. 1.

Michael B. Jordan 3f62w

If Megan Thee Stallion reigns as the Queen of Anime among celebrities, then Michael B. Jordan assumes the mantle of King. In Creed III, a film directed by Jordan himself, numerous scenes draw heavy inspiration from a lengthy list of anime, as revealed by the actor. Additionally, during a BBC Radio 1 interview, Jordan advocated for watching anime, suggesting a starting lineup comprising One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Bleach, and Hunter x Hunter. Taste.

Controversial and talented might as well be Kanye “Ye” West’s middle name, but what no one could have assumed about the rapper, is that he’s quite the anime fan. Ye has often expressed to draw inspiration for music from several animated films, including Akira — which also happens to be his favorite movie of all time. Similarly, in his docu-series Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, the designer also recommends someone to watch the 1985 mystery anime film Angel’s Egg, and he’s also mentioned the manga Lupin the Third in the song “Touch the Sky.”

Jamie Lee Curtis d6s3z

Now, Jamie Lee Curtis hasn’t mentioned anime very often, but she does have one of my favorite anime-related stories of all time. Even before the news of a One Piece live-action adaptation came out, the Everything Everywhere All At Once actress consistently advocated and campaigned to be cast as Kureha. Now that a live-action is officially in full force, and Drum Island is expected to be adapted during season two, we can only hope that Jamie Lee Curtis has her wish fulfilled at long last.

Ariana Grande’s love for anime has always been on display for all of us to see. The “Thank U, Next” singer has several tattoos across her body depicting some of her favorite and most impactful anime. At this point in time, Grande has at least 61 known tattoos, two of which are anime-inspired. One of Grande’s most loved tattoos among fans is that of Spirited Away’s Chihiro on her right arm, and a few years later, on her upper arm, she got a tattoo of Eevee, her favorite Pokémon.

Megan Fox 2v184o

Now, I assume not many of you knew Megan Fox was a huge anime fan; I certainly didn’t. But upon further inspection, I can confidently proclaim Megan as a certified weeb. In an old interview for Seventeen, the actress shared that she started watching anime as a kid on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network and eventually evolved into reading graphic novels (we’ve all been there). According to Megan herself, she watched anime like Cowboy Bebop and Inuyasha, fell in love with the art, and to this day, she still adores anime and manga.

The late Robin Williams never let his age get in the way of his love for anime. The highly acclaimed actor of Dead Poets Society proved time and again his penchant for anime, frequently recommending his favorite titles. In an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, Williams shared his most-played video games, along with his favorite anime and anime films, including Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Blood: The Last Vampire. However, it appears he wasn’t particularly familiar with Fullmetal Alchemist.

John Boyega 6i503f

Apparently, being a brilliant actor will not keep you away from anime — just ask Star Wars’ John Boyega. As another certified weeb (yes, I just christened him that), Boyega has taken time out of his day, time and time again, to boast about anime as a limitless medium and, of course, about his favorite anime. According to the actor, Attack on Titan, Naruto, The Seven Deadly Sins, Hunter x Hunter, and Bleach are among his favorite titles. Amazing taste, but I recommend One Piece next, Boyega.

These directors are highly successful in a wide variety of genres, but they should definitely give horror a try.]]>
<![CDATA[

Crafting a favorable horror movie is undoubtedly a rollercoaster of a process, with a variety of key elements attributing to the film’s overall success and popularity amongst the community. On one hand, building a credible narrative and thought-provoking dialogue is essential, but one significant factor is a major component in the entire moviemaking ordeal — and that would be the choice of director

In the past, the colossal horror universe has borrowed inspiration and authentic ideas from a lineup of star-studded filmmakers in the modern day — including Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, Robert Eggers, and Ti West. Long before them, notable directors such as John Carpenter, Wes Craven, and Sam Raimi dominated the spooky bubble and introduced us all to a realm of jumps and scares.

That being said, an unwavering list of potential directors who absolutely need to direct a horror movie continues to grow. This is not at all to say that these directors aren’t successful in different genres, but the fact still remains that we definitely yearn for these prominent filmmakers to have a seat in the director’s chair for a divine horror feature.

Let’s make no bones about it — Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the scariest, most unsettling movie in the entire franchise. That’s all thanks to the tremendous work of Cuarón, of course, who perfectly displayed how brilliant his cinematography and suspenseful pacing would be in regards to a full-length horror feature. Years ago, the acclaimed director was rumored to direct a horror flick, although it simply never came to be true. That being said, the spooky community has yet to stop championing for Cuarón to lead a fun-filled horror extravaganza.

Kathryn Bigelow 6c206h

In a sea of gifted male filmmakers, award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow is amongst the best female auteurs — and it’s hard to deny that her presence in the horror genre would be a huge gift. Across her illustrious career thus far, the accomplished filmmaker has crafted action/thrillers such as The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, so it’s clear that she has a promising vision for leading the charge on projects rooted in suspense. And while her work in other prominent genres has been well-documented, it’s definitely time for her to step into the horror realm and master it brilliantly.

Without a doubt, Tarantino remains as one of the most popular and creative directors in all of Hollywood. So, naturally, wanting to see a horror movie derived from his expansive mind should hardly come as a huge surprise. And, sure, Death Proof and From Dusk Till Dawn exist (and both films do teeter on horror), but shifting his sights to craft a flat-out horror movie is exactly what we all need. Only time will tell if Tarantino ever does actually go through with it, but for now, we’ll keep on hoping.

Bong Joon-ho x5l2w

With a cinematic masterpiece such as Parasite under his belt, the South Korean filmmaker has already shown the world that he has the chops to direct a larger-than-life horror journey. And yes, some might argue that Joon-ho has already dabbled in the horror/thriller sub-genre with The Host, but allowing him to crack his knuckles and create his own authentic and actual horror script would undoubtedly be a huge blessing for the ever-growing genre. Honestly, we need this like we need air.

Christopher Nolan 2dl1m

Each day that es, ionate of the horror community continue to collectively wait with bated breath for Nolan to deliver an unforgettable horror experience. And while Nolan’s Dark Knight films did manage to dabble with dark and grisly themes, witnessing an actual spooky flick from the accomplished auteur would be a dream come true. Considering his effortless storytelling, calculated pacing, and divine choice of setting, there’s absolutely no denying that Nolan would be one of the best directors for the job of a modern-day horror flick.

How old was John Travolta in ‘Pulp Fiction?’ p254 https://wegotthiscovered.crackfree.org/movies/how-old-was-john-travolta-in-pulp-fiction/ https://wegotthiscovered.crackfree.org/movies/how-old-was-john-travolta-in-pulp-fiction/#respond <![CDATA[Genci Papraniku]]> Tue, 17 Oct 2023 18:11:15 +0000 <![CDATA[Movies]]> <![CDATA[John Travolta]]> <![CDATA[Pulp Fiction]]> <![CDATA[Quentin Tarantino]]> https://wegotthiscovered.crackfree.org/?p=1606035 <![CDATA[
Can you guess how old the 'Grease' icon was in 'Pulp Fiction'?]]>
<![CDATA[

From the film’s get-go, John Travolta‘s hilarious and authentic performance as Vincent Vega in 1994’s Pulp Fiction lures viewers in as the character teaches us about a “Royale with Cheese,” and the Netherlands’ complicated marijuana laws.

Quentin Tarantino’s second flick pulled Travolta out of a career slump, and earned the veteran performer an Oscar nomination. The actor was 40 upon the film’s release, making him 39 during the production. Travolta’s main co-star, Samuel L. Jackson, was 45 when the film premiered; Uma Thurman was 24. And Bruce Willis was 39.

Again, Travolta’s performance was one of the film’s main highlights. However, casting the actor was not an easy sell.

It’s bizarre to imagine anyone but Travolta playing Vincent Vega. But in the early ’90s, his career was in a dive, and certain industry heads, like Harvey Weinstein, felt the actor lacked reliable bankability.

Weinstein, who produced a majority of Tarantino’s filmography, was absolutely against casting Travolta for Pulp Fiction. According to Vanity Fair, Weinstein argued for big names like Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Penn, or William Hurt, instead. A young Tarantino and his agent, Mike Simpson, stood their ground and forced the producer to relent.

After Pulp Fiction, Travolta’s star shone bright. A year after the film’s release, he was able to capture success again with Get Shorty, starring alongside Danny DeVito, Gene Hackman, and Rene Russo. In ’97, he and Nicholas Cage smashed the box office with Face/Off.

While Travolta may have one of the most topsy-turvy careers in Hollywood, his iconic roles are iconic for a reason. Nobody is going to be forgetting about Pulp Fiction, Grease, and Saturday Night Fever anytime soon.

(Tarantino fans may also be interested to learn that a rumor is spreading online that Travolta may appear in the director’s last film; that would definitely be a full circle moment.)

Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski’s marriage history 634ia explained https://wegotthiscovered.crackfree.org/celebrities/sharon-tate-and-roman-polanskis-marriage-history-explained/ https://wegotthiscovered.crackfree.org/celebrities/sharon-tate-and-roman-polanskis-marriage-history-explained/#respond <![CDATA[Genci Papraniku]]> Wed, 11 Oct 2023 21:36:32 +0000 <![CDATA[Celebrities]]> <![CDATA[helter skelter]]> <![CDATA[Once Upon a Time in Hollywood]]> <![CDATA[Quentin Tarantino]]> <![CDATA[Roman Polanski]]> <![CDATA[sharon tate]]> https://wegotthiscovered.crackfree.org/?p=1601982 <![CDATA[
All that glitters is not necessarily gold.]]>
<![CDATA[

On August 9, 1969, Sharon Tate and four others — Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, and Steven Parent — were brutally murdered by of the notorious Manson Family. She was stabbed 16 times (per The New York Times). Tate was 26 years old and eight and a half months pregnant at the time of her murder.

The Tate–LaBianca killings (the perpetrators killed two more people the next day: Leno and Rosemary LaBianca) have become one of the most high-profile and infamous murders in American history.

Before this tragedy, Tate was a highly popular actress and a Hollywood starlet. Known for her beauty and comedic acting chops, she was able to secure herself a seat at the tumultuous Tinseltown table. As her star began to shine bright, she fell in love with a big-name director – Roman Polanski.

Tate and Polanski married in a London ceremony on January 20, 1968. Tate, 24, and Roman Polanski, 34, proved to be among the most defining celebrity couples of the ’60s. However, behind the glitz and glamour, their marriage was anything but.

Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski’s marriage was a complicated one 11715

According to multiple sources, Sharon Tate’s marriage to Roman Polanski was not idyllic, primarily due to the latter’s infidelity. In a rather famous quote, Tate reportedly itted: “We have a good arrangement. Roman lies to me and I pretend to believe him” (via The New Republic).

American film producer Martin Ransohoff introduced the two sometime in the mid-’60s and he aimed to help Tate land a part in Polanski’s flick, The Fearless Vampire Killers (per The Independent).

Their first two meetings were awkward encounters. Polanski supposedly didn’t even speak to Tate during their first date; on their second, the director apparently frightened Tate by wearing a Frankenstein mask and charging at her (via People). The pair starred in The Fearless Vampire Killers together in 1967 and then married in ’68.

While the actress was certainly embedded in Hollywood, it’s likely she was not prepared for the permissive culture around her. After all, Tate had a rather conservative upbringing. She grew up in a “strict but loving military family” and was “raised Catholic” (per The New Republic). “I wish I had the tolerance to let everybody have complete freedom,” Tate allegedly itted to photographer Peter Evans. “To be able to take a man home and make love and enjoy it without some lurking puritanical guilt interrupting the pleasure… Mentally it’s what I want, but emotionally it is more difficult to take.”

Author Ed Sanders — in his book Sharon Tate: A Life — describes the actress as very subservient to Polanski. “Her problem was that she had always been beautiful, and people were forever losing themselves in fantasy over her – electing her a beauty queen, imagining her as a wife, dreaming of a caress. Most people had fantasies. But a few people, like Polanski, took charge” (per People). Canadian actress Joanna Pettet, a friend of Tate’s, explained to the author that: “He told her how to dress; he told her what makeup he liked, what he didn’t like. He preferred her with nothing, no makeup.” The way Pettet explains it, Polanski ruled Tate’s “entire life.”

According to Sanders, another friend of Tate’s, photographer Shahrokh Hatami, explained that “Sharon told me about Roman – about imposed sexual scenes on her.” Hatami elaborated, “He was bringing other girls to have threesomes with Sharon, and Sharon didn’t like it that he was picking up girls on the Sunset and bringing them home to have sex with them” (via People). The author further notes that Polanski and Tate had a falling out after she refused to get an abortion. Polanski allegedly reacted by leaving for London and having an affair with The Mamas & the Papas singer, Michelle Phillips.

In 2019, Margot Robbie portrayed Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time In Hollywood. This romantic flick showcases the fictional adventures of Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). In this alternate world, Tate is inadvertently saved by Dalton and Booth when they brutally dispatch the Manson Family attackers. Once Upon a Time In Hollywood was released to critical acclaim. While the movie did not focus on Tate’s character too much, or her messy relationship with Polanski, Robbie still gave a touching performance as the ’60s icon.

Almost eight years after Sharon Tate’s murder, Roman Polanski would be arrested for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.

<![CDATA[

Chris Hemsworth wasn’t best pleased when he caught wind of Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese’s scathing criticisms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the always-affable Chris Evans has decided to take a different approach.

One of the two-time Academy Award-winning Pulp Fiction director’s most heated bones of contention was that the actors in the franchise aren’t really movie stars, but they’re presented as such through association with the characters they play.

avengers endgame
Image via Marvel Studios

While Robert Downey Jr. and many others would surely disagree with that point, Evans itted to GQ that Tarantino was fairly spot-on in his assessment, sharing that he’s happy not to shoulder the entire burden of carrying a multi-billion dollar brand all on his lonesome.

“That was the beauty of working on Marvel films. You never really had to be front and center. Even in your own films sometimes. Quentin Tarantino said it recently, and I was like, you know, he’s right. The character is the star. You’re there, but you don’t feel the burden of it.”

Of course, Kevin Feige would disagree by offering that “I think it’s something he was telling himself, and I think it’s something many of the Avengers, including Robert, would tell themselves, which actually was very helpful to the process. But in certain cases, including Chris’, it’s not entirely true.” Regardless of where the truth really lies, the actor is at the very least self-aware enough to know that Chris Evans: The Winter Soldier or Chris Evans: Civil War maybe wouldn’t have sold as many tickets.
