Romy and Michele are edging closer to another reunion, and fans are eagerly awaiting all the exciting details. Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion was released in 1997 and has gradually become a firm cult classic. There have been talks about a sequel in recent years, and now Mira Sorvino has some news to share.

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, directed by David Mirkin, follows best friends Romy White (Sorvino) and Michele Weinberger (Lisa Kudrow) as they concoct a wild scheme to impress their former bullies, the popular girls known as the A-Group, at their 10-year high school reunion in Tucson, Arizona. The movie also starred Janeane Garofalo, Alan Cumming, Julia Campbell, Elaine Hendrix, Vincent Ventresca, and Justin Theroux in the fleeting yet iconic role of outcast Clarence the Cowboy.

In an interview with People, Sorvino shared that a director has been chosen to helm the sequel, and the project is “so close to being greenlit.” According to the actress, she and Kudrow will be reprising their roles as Romy and Michele, and they’ll also be serving as executive producers. Despite the big news, however, there are still plenty of changes being made, and it isn’t quite official yet but the outlook seems positive. “There are rumors of shooting it second quarter next year,” Sorvino said before adding, “But it’s not officially greenlit, so I can’t say that it’s officially greenlit.”

In of who’s coming back for the sequel, Sorvino said, “Almost every single character from the original that was important is coming back. This is all pending, them making deals, them saying yes, but they’re all in there,” she explained.

Alan Cumming and Lisa Kudrow have read the script

Scottish actor Alan Cumming portrayed the role of Sandy Frink, a geek who had a big crush on Michele in high school and had become a business tycoon after inventing a special type of rubber. In Feb., the actor disclosed his theory about why he thinks it’s taken a long time for a sequel to move forward. “My theory is that because they’re two women. If they were to men this would’ve been our fifth sequel by now. I think misogyny in Hollywood is huge,” he expressed.

Cumming recalled Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion as being his first movie in Hollywood and wasn’t sure why he was given the role. Nevertheless, he enjoyed doing the film and is amazed at how it has accumulated a cult following throughout the years. In June, Cumming expressed his excitement about the sequel, sharing that it’s a great opportunity to relive the characters. “I actually know that the story is, and it’s really good. So I’m excited. I’m so excited to go back to it,” he said.

Likewise, Kudrow has also read the script. While talking to ComicBook in July, the actress said, “I actually read a script, but we’ll see — nothing’s decided. I hope so — I liked the script.” It seems there has been movement on the project since then, and it’s only a matter of time before we find out what’s next for Romy and Michele and what they’ve been up to since their high school reunion.

There are just 10 couples left on season 32 of Dancing With The Stars, and the remaining duos are starting to turn up the heat — will episode 5 feature the season’s first perfect score?

After an inaugural “Disney100” night that was just too fun, the pairs are about to take a trip down memory lane as they reminisce on their “Most Memorable Year” (for better or for worse). Dancing to a smash hit from the time that the celebrities have deemed to be their “Most Memorable Year,” viewers will get to know this season’s contestants on a much deeper level after this extremely special episode, and we seriously cannot contain our excitement.

In fact, Dancing With The Stars has already taken to Instagram to tease some of the remaining contestant’s “Most Memorable Year,” as well as some adorable photos from rehearsal.

“2021: the year I traded a childhood dream for the opportunity of a lifetime,” Xochitl Gomez shared, likely referencing the year she secured her breakout role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

On the other hand, Ariana Madix of Vanderpump Rules shared, “2023: the year I thought I lost it all, but I really gained everything,” likely referring to “Scandoval,” the public breakup she had with longtime boyfriend Tom Sandoval after an affair came to light.

In addition to this, Barry Williams of The Brady Bunch will be celebrating 1968, Alyson Hannigan of How I Met Your Mother will be celebrating 2003, Grammy Award-winning artist Jason Mraz will be celebrating 1999, and more — it is sure to be an unforgettable evening!

To top it all off, the professional dance partners will be recognizing the “Most Memorable Year” in Dancing With The Stars history, paying tribute to former head judge Len Goodman who ed away in April of 2023. Dancing with the Stars has officially welcomed 14 new faces into the ballroom!

September 13 on Good Morning America, all of the pairings for season 32 of Dancing with the Stars were revealed, and executive producer Conrad Green gushed about the stars hitting the ballroom.

“What’s interesting with a lot of our contestants this year is this real drive and excitement about doing it. There’s a real ion for it. It’s been a tough number of years, one way or another… so what I’m hoping we can bring to people is bringing Dancing [with the Stars] back and giving audiences a blast of sunshine early in the week.”

But while ditching Nimona for its LGBTQ+ themes proves that the Mouse House ain’t very bright, its refusal to release yet another project might actually be the studio’s first smart decision in a while, even though the film is currently winning the box office before even releasing.

Meanwhile, a struggling reboot — which has been stuck in developmental hell for the last 15 years — daydreams of ing the elites. And when foolhardy aspirations are not keeping Disney in focus, Indiana Jones 5 is, with its own battles against a specific kind of discrimination many thought was long gone for good.

After Nimona, Disney’s second stepchild in 2 weeks proves to be a dollar magnet at the box office

Just like Netflix struck gold by releasing Nimona, Angel Studios is reaping the benefits of grabbing Sound of Freedom – which was shelved by Disney back in 2018. The Jim Caviezel and Mira Sorvino starrer already nabbed a hefty $10 million at the box office before its release today, which is a big feat as it is backed by a small production house instead of a giant like Disney.

But despite its clear potential to be a financial victory, it is very much possible that the Mouse House actually dodged a bullet by dumping the film. Its plot is said to depict the real-life story of former agent Tim Ballard who ditched Homeland Security to embark on a solo mission of saving trafficked children. The shaky authenticity of his claims and the ethics of his anti-trafficking organization has raised some dark questions.

What further makes Disney’s decision look wise in comparison is the particularly sensational conspiracy theories the film’s star, Caviezel, is ionately discussing to promote Sound of Freedom.

A stuck reboot, struggling to reach completion for over a decade, sees itself as an equal to Marvel and DC

Disney’s MCU took years to achieve the bankable franchise status it enjoys today, while the DC cinematic universe is still struggling to reach that milestone. And then there is Mattel boss Ynon Kreiz, who thinks the still-in-development-since-2007 Masters of the Universe reboot is already “as big as Marvel and DC.”

Given all the hurdles that keep hitting the reboot, perhaps taking it one film at a time would be wise instead of losing focus on building an imaginary franchise that is on par with the biggest shared universes out there.

Many reviews have not shied away from stressing that the biggest thing about the film that bothers them is Harrison Ford’s age and incorrectly highlighting how he is just too old to helm an action film. Well, not everyone is blind to the fact that Ford holds his own — even looks good while doing it — and the real reason why Indiana Jones 5 doesn’t resonate with a big chunk of its audience.

A conspiracy-heavy Disney reject has already brought in $10M ahead of its July 4 opening

If there is ever a trophy for bad choices, Disney will win it fair and square courtesy of its globally detested decisions, especially its refusal to release films that are then whisked away by its competitors and end up ruling the box office — a feat Mouse House’s recent creations have been struggling to achieve.

While Netflix is busy enjoying the roaring success of Nimona, which was dumped by Walt Disney Studios post its acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Sound of Freedom, which the production company outright refused to release, has already earned $10 million in presales before it finally releases on July 4. As reported by Deadline, the film is predicted to earn up to $20 million in its first week, which would be a big milestone for a project not backed by a big studio.

But maybe, just maybe, in this case, Disney actually had a valid and rather logical reason for backing out of the project.

Directed by Alejandro Monteverde and starring Jim Caviezel along with Mira Sorvino, Eduardo Verastegui (also the producer) and Bill Camp, Sound of Freedom had been sitting idle on a shelf gathering dust for five years, thanks to Disney. Its production wrapped up back in 2018 and it was supposed to be distributed by 21st Century Fox. But then the studio was acquired by Disney, which promptly shelved the completed film.

As revealed by Neal Harmon, CEO and co-founder of the film’s new distributor, Angel Studios, in a chat with the Washington Examiner, Disney not only refused to release Sound of Freedom, but also sat on it for a year while its producer tried to pry its rights from the studio.

“Initially made with [21st Century] Fox. After it was completed, Fox was acquired by Disney, who said, ‘We can’t release this film.’ Eduardo spent over a year before [Disney] released the rights to the film. At that time, he tried to take it to theaters, but just as they were, COVID hit, and another three years ed.”

But did Disney really make a mistake in dropping Sound of Freedom?

While the Mouse House does make questionable choices, its decision to shelve Sound of Freedom was most probably prompted by controversies around the authenticity of its source as well as the film’s star, Jim Caviezel, concerning ways of choosing to promote the film on his press tour.

Sound of Freedom is set to tell the real-life story of former Special Agent Tim Ballard, who quit his job with Homeland Security and didn’t hesitate to risk his life to rescue children from human traffickers. But many investigative reports have put a glaring question mark on the claims made by Ballard and the credibility of his anti-trafficking organization Operation Underground Railroad, which has been accused of faking evidence and fabricating statistics of rescues.

Then there is the matter of Caviezel himself. On his press tour, the actor best-known for starring in Mel Gibson’s The ion of The Christ has been promoting the film, Ballard’s organization, and the lurid conspiracy theory that there are a group of “elites” out there trafficking and then killing children to obtain the chemical compound Adrenochrome from them. Caviezel’s interviews with noted alt-right figures including Steve Bannon and Scott McKay hoist a number of concerning, QAnon-inflected red flags.

If Sound of Freedom indeed ends up being the financial success it is expected and predicted to be, it might be the second victory Disney voluntarily lost while trying to avoid a potential PR nightmare.

Paul Sorvino left behind a legacy that was markedly different from the characters he played onscreen

There has been an outpouring of love in the wake of the ing of legendary actor Paul Sorvino, who died from from natural causes this week at 83. But for those who knew him and were closest to him, Sorvino — who was best known for his role of Paul Cicero in the 1990 gangster film Goodfellas — could not have been more different than the thugs and tough guys he played in film and on television.

In addition to being an accomplished actor on stage and screen, Sorvino was also an opera singer, prolific sculptor working in cast bronze, philanthropist, loving husband, and fiercely protective father.

Sensing his somewhat misleading reputation from the roles in which he was so often typecast, Sorvino explained in a 2014 interview why so few people knew the real him.

“Most people think I’m either a gangster or a cop or something,” he told The Orlando Weekly at the time. “But the reality is I’m a sculptor, a painter, a best-selling author, many, many things — a poet, an opera singer, but none of them is gangster, but, you know, obviously I sort of have a knack for playing these things.”

“It’s almost my later goal in life to disabuse people of the notion that I’m a slow-moving, heavy-lidded thug, and most people’s impression of me IS that,” he continued. “Because of the success of Goodfellas and a few other things, but they forget that I was also Dr. Kissinger in Nixon, the deaf lawyer in Dummy, and they forget a lot of things that I’ve done. It would be nice to have my legacy more than that of just tough guy.”

Hopefully Sorvino can rest easy, because the tributes that have surfaced since the news of his ing do indeed reflect a thoughtful, complicated man.

In a statement to The Wrap, Martin Scorsese called his former collaborator a “generous soul” and “irreplaceable artist” whom he had learned a lot from while filming Goodfellas.

“Paul Sorvino was a brilliant actor. He was completely immersed in his craft, and his level of mastery could take your breath away,” Scorsese said. “Look at his performance as Louis Fraina in Reds by Warren Beatty. He found a wonderfully expressive voice for his character, and quite a unique body language: urgent, fervent, and imioned. Watch it back to back with his performance as the televangelist in Oh God by Carl Reiner. At first glance, it seems like a broad comic turn, a send-up of Jimmy Swaggart and Jerry Falwell. But when you really pay attention, you see that Paul is inhabiting the character completely. It’s hilarious but it’s also sobering and disturbing.”

“I loved working with Paul on that picture,” the director said of Goodfellas. “It wasn’t always easy, but that’s never the point to begin with. Paul was tireless — he never settled for less than a deeper emotional truth. I learned a lot from him.”

“I was really saddened to hear the news of his ing,” Scorsese added. “In part because it was so close to losing Ray Liotta. But it was also the loss of a great, generous soul, and an irreplaceable artist.”

Sorvino’s eldest daughter, Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino, also paid tribute to her late father on Twitter.

“My father the great Paul Sorvino has ed,” the 54-year-old wrote. “My heart is rent asunder — a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend.”

Sorvino was a dedicated family man

Sorvino wed three times, and is survived by his third wife, Emmy award-winning television and radio personality, Dee Dee Sorvino.

The two eloped in 2014 shortly after meeting in the green room of the Fox News Channel studios, and even collaborated on a 2017 cookbook, Pinot, Pasta, and Parties, which reflected Sorvino’s love for his mother’s “old school” recipes and family traditions from Naples, Italy.

“He’s just this sweetheart … and loved people,” his widow told Fox News. “He loved life. He loved food, you know, he just loved everything. That’s how I fell in love with him, that’s how he grabbed me because it’s like, how can you not love someone who loves so much? He just was that guy. Paul really touched me and changed my life.”

In the wake of his ing, comments that Sorvino made about disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein likewise went viral. His daughter Mira was just one of countless actresses who Weinstein preyed upon, and after she rejected his advances, she believes that he intentionally blacklisted her from future projects.

“It is reprehensible beyond description that women have been treated in this manner,” Sorvino told Los Angeles KCAL 9 News while attending a Golden Globes event in January 2018. “You know, when you’ve had a phenomenal mother like I had, you are automatically a feminist. That’s why I have this wonderful wife. The reality is that anyone who takes advantage of women should be publicly strangled and I’ll — I’ll volunteer.”

Additionally, Sorvino came to his other daughter’s rescue, Amanda Sorvino, in a 2007 incident involving an ex-boyfriend. The then-21-year-old was threatening Amanda and attempting to get into her motel room in Stowe, Vermont, when Sorvino showed up packing heat.

“He expressly stated there was no way through his training that he aimed the gun at this person, he didn’t even threaten him,” Police Chief Ken Kaplan later recalled of the incident. “He just said, ‘I have a gun, I want you to stay away from my daughter, back off,’ because the guy was out of control, and he was.”

Although, like many other aging actors from a certain era, Sorvino was unfortunately a er of Donald Trump, and correctly felt that backing the former president made you a Hollywood persona non grata. However, over the course of his life and career, Sorvino led by example, and as such his legacy reflects as much.

The world said goodbye to legendary actor Paul Sorvino this week, who died at 83 on Monday from natural causes after having suffered from health issues in recent years.

In addition to being a great actor, best known for his role as Paulie Cicero in the 1990 gangster film Goodfellas, Sorvino was also a loving and protective father to his daughter, Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino. Unfortunately, as the 54-year-old revealed to Ronan Farrow for his October 2017 New Yorker bombshell, she too had fallen victim to the advances of disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein, and genuinely believed that her career had been sabotaged after she rebuffed him.

A few months later, while attending a Golden Globes event in January 2018, the elder Sorvino was asked about the scandal and he certainly did not mince words.

“It is reprehensible beyond description that women have been treated in this manner,” Sorvino told Los Angeles KCAL 9 News at the time. “You know, when you’ve had a phenomenal mother like I had, you are automatically a feminist. Shortly after Farrow published his report, Sorvino penned an op-ed for Time magazine to elaborate on why she ultimately decided to share her story — even if she knew it meant potentially further jeopardizing her career.

For another 24 hours, I second-guessed my decision, wondering if I would ever work again, wondering if being a whistleblower would mean being blacklisted. But once I knew the story was going to print and it was irrevocable, an enormous peace washed over me — a sense that finally I had taken my personal power back from a man who has made me scared every time I have seen him in public. My fear of what could be done to me has been outweighed by an overwhelming sense that I am living with full courage and honesty.
In the days since, as other women have spoken out, the has been overwhelming and deeply gratifying. Those of us who have spoken out tapped into an national community of girls, women, boys and men, from every walk of life, who have been subject to this pandemic of sexual harassment and abuse.

Even if Sorvino was initially reluctant to come forward, it sounds like she had the of her famous father, anyway. He will certainly be missed.

Actress Mira Sorvino has paid tribute to her father, Paul Sorvino, in a post made to her Twitter this afternoon. The Mighty Aphrodite actor acknowledged his ing and her own grief, calling him a most wonderful father.

The actor has always maintained a close relationship with her father, who famously and openly wept when she was a recipient of the Best ing Actress for her performance in “Mighty Aphrodite” at the 68th Academy Awards in 1996.

Mira’s career stalled in the new century when she was allegedly sexually harassed and then blacklisted by Miramax producer Harvey Weinstein. When the allegations surfaced in the wake of the MeToo movement in 2018, Paul responded in the manner of many a protective father. “He’s going to jail. Oh yeah. This son of Ab****. Good for him if he goes, because if he doesn’t, he has to meet me. And I’ll kill the motherf***er. Very simple”, the Goodfellas star told TMZ in 2018.

The pair worked together on Mira’s first feature film role, the cult horror comedy film, The Stuff, where Mira had a role as a factory worker. They last worked together on the Netflix crime drama Beneath the Leaves. During her Oscar acceptance speech, Mira said that Paul “has taught me everything I know about acting.”

Mira Sorvino ed the cast of CBS Mornings to talk about the film, Most Guys Are Losers and gave us all a glimmer of hope that we might soon return to the world of pink and blue suits, fancy rental cars, and post-it notes.

Sorvino was asked about a sequel to Romy and Michele, as this is the 25th anniversary of the hilarious high-school reunion movie, and she had a 1,000-wat smile when she began trying to find a way to answer the question without giving too much away.

“I can’t say anything but we’re closer now than we’ve ever been to that being a reality. The wheels are starting to move and — I am so excited.”

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion was a perfect 90s movie, an instant classic, and an ode to being comfortable with yourself vs. trying to impress those around you. We all related to the titular characters’ nervousness in reuniting with people they spent their most awkward and formidable years with.

Sorvino was also asked about the prospect of a sequel on TODAY with Hoda and Jenna, where she had a similar answer to the question.

“There’s nothing official to report but I can unofficially hint that we’re closer than we’ve ever been to getting something to happen.”
