What has been consistent throughout Donald Trump’s lifetime? Lies, frauds, cons, made-up scenarios, verbal diarrhea, attacking the poor to fill the banks of the rich, misogyny? Nah, while there have been breaks in these here and there – his shockingly coherent Joe Biden post comes to mind – one thing has been the lifeline of his political regime.

Hatred. Tons of it, and he never really made an effort to hide disdain against anyone who either didn’t him, sided with his opponents, or dared to call him and his lackeys out. In a 2012 episode of The Celebrity Apprentice, Trump remarked: “Nobody takes things more personally than me. When somebody says something personal about me, I hate them for the rest of my life. It’s probably wrong, but I hate people… I never recover from it.”

And he hasn’t changed at all. If anything, becoming president for the second time has only hastened his moral degradation.

But clearly, either the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt – who has been spouting mind-bogging lies for the president – has been living in an alternate universe all this time, or believes are words will be enough to erase the sinking ditch of hatred Trump’s social media s are.

Right. So, the POTUS proclaiming that he hates Taylor Swift simply because she doesn’t like his policies and opinions is not a leader of a nation spewing hatred?

And this is just one example in a swarming nest of mean, degrading comments he has made. 

When he threatened and insulted judges who were overseeing his felony cases, as well as the ones who held him liable for sexual assault. When he openly derided CNN Journalist Jim Costa and said, “I hate your stinking guts, you make me vomit. You’re the scum between my toes.”

Or when he posted an image of former President Joe Biden hog-tied, lying horizontally with his hands and feet bound. Or his insensitive and disrespectful comments about the 2022 attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband that were widely condemned? Did Levitt forget these, or is she hoping that the rest of America will suffer the same pattern of cult-induced amnesia? Wonder how she could say that with a straight face.

And don’t even forget his MAGA base that thrives on hatred, ecstatic that now they can openly be racist and be disgusting with no repercussions. Shiloh Hendrix from Minnesota? The woman used a racial slur against a 5-year-old autistic Black child in late April 2025 at Soldiers Field Memorial Park, where Hendrix confronted the child, accused him of taking items from her son’s diaper bag, and used the N-word in the exchange. The consequences? None. 

In fact, after the video of the incident went viral, Hendrix launched a fundraiser on the Christian crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo, claiming that her personal information had been leaked online and that she and her family were receiving threats. So far, she has managed to raise $700,000, with a goal of $1 million.

This is the Trump istration and its domino effect on the nation. This is the level to which he has dragged down America.

JD Vance called Kilmar Abrego Garcia a “convicted MS-13 gang member” and Karoline Leavitt said she had “credible information” that he was involved in human trafficking and “was a member – actually a leader – of the brutal MS-13 gang”. These were lies. They made it up. It’s not true.

Vance and Leavitt lied because they had been made to look extremely foolish and extraordinarily cruel by accidentally sending an innocent man to the El Salvadoran nightmare prison. Garcia is, in fact, a Maryland dad who was in the country legally, is in full-time union employment and, by the Trump istration lawyers’ ission, was only deported as a result of an “istrative error”.

Despite that unambiguous fact, the Trump istration has spent countless hours searching for a way to ignore this inconvenient truth and abandon Garcia to his fate. First, the lawyers casually explained that as he’s in El Salvador there’s nothing they can do to help him. Then, when a district court judge ordered his immediate return, they smeared the judge as a liberal activist overreaching her power and appealed to the Supreme Court.

In a ruling with no noted dissents, the Supreme Court has told the Trump that, no seriously guys, GET THIS GUY BACK NOW. The order, released on Thursday, instructs the government to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s release from custody in El Salvador and to “ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador.”

This will have left red faces at the White House, some with embarrassment and some with fury. Naturally, they need to save face, so Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin clutched at straws to say that, actually, the order telling them to return Garcia is a win for them as the judges “agreed with us that the District Court improperly interfered with the President’s foreign affairs power”. Well, yes, technically. But the Supreme Court is also banging you guys’ heads together and telling you to get this guy on a plane, stat.

As there is no route of appeal from a Supreme Court decision, two things could now happen. The first is that Trump’s goons grudgingly comply, fly to El Salvador, pick up Garcia and return him to his family. The second is that they simply ignore it and see what happens. After all, who’s going to step in and enforce it? But, at that point, the US really would be living under a dictator, so let’s hope it’s the former.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, President Donald Trump is considering legal options regarding the deportation of American citizens to El Salvador.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Leavitt stated that Trump has “simply floated” the idea in the “effort of transparency.” Well at least they’re being transparent I suppose. The statement came after a reporter asked about what Trump had said over the weekend. The president claimed he would be willing to deport U.S. citizens to El Salvador with the cooperation of President Bukele.

Leavitt revealed that Trump had discussed the possibility numerous times both publicly and privately. She emphasized the fact that the president had specified “If there is a legal pathway to do that,” then he would be interested in pursuing it. However, at this stage it is only a possibility.

Of course, when have legal obstacles ever stopped Trump in the past? The fact this has to even be specified shows just how low public trust for Donald is. Any other president and it would be a given that they were operating within the bounds of the law. With Trump it’s another story.

Leavitt went on to further clarify that this would only apply to “heinous, violent criminals who have broken our nation’s laws repeatedly.”

Responding to Leavitt’s statement on X, many pointed out that it most certainly is illegal, no ifs or buts. One individual wrote, “You can’t deport American citizens. It is illegal, period.” Another expressed worries that the Supreme Court would find a way to make it happen for Trump, “Of course, Trump’s yes men and woman on the Supreme Court will find it acceptable.”

The issue with the plan

Aside from a whole list of human rights violations that would result from this policy, there are other issues to consider. In the last few weeks we’ve already seen the Trump istration erroneously deport two individuals to El Salvador and nobody’s done a thing to save either one of them.

One person on X pointed out, “they deported a non criminal and said it was a mistake. So American citizens might have mistakes too?” If the government doesn’t have a foolproof way to differentiate between real criminals and innocents then we could see even more innocent people being sent to “hell on earth.”

Given how inept the Trump istration has shown itself to be it’s no surprise that this news is concerning to many. Plus the stories about this confinement center in El Salvador paint a disturbing picture. Nobody deserves to be sent to such a terrible place, U.S. citizen or not.

In a way, it’s impressive that Karoline Leavitt has ascended to the White House press secretary at the age of just 27. The job demands quick thinking, careful use of language, and a ridiculous level of self-confidence. But in another, more important, way she’s the human sewage outlet through which the lies of the Trump istration spew.

Leavitt is about as MAGA as it comes, having caused storms in Saint Anselm College for her outspoken of Donald Trumps first term policies, before following the tried and tested route of interning at Fox News, moving from there to working within the Trump-era White House press office, running a failed campaign to be selected to the House of Representatives, before landing the plum job she now enjoys.

In just a few weeks she’s carved out a grim reputation, beginning her first press conference with lies about condoms being sent to Gaza. Since then she’s done her best to ensure that the Trump press core is stacked with MAGA-friendly faces, pushing out any media representatives who’d dare to press her on awkward points.

That said, her understanding of what tariffs are appears… questionable.

As White House press secretary Leavitt commands an annual salary of $180,000, roughly in line with previous press secretaries. But, for her, this is merely a drop of water in a deep bucket. Leavitt is from a wealthy New Hampshire family with multiple lucrative business interests, apparently receiving a $100,000 inheritance to boost her career.

Beyond that, she can rely on her fabulously wealthy husband Nicholas Riccio. According to The Economic Times, Riccio has a net worth of $6 million due to his lucrative real estate dealings, and poured his considerable wealth into Leavitt’s failed 2022 congressional campaign.

As cosmic karma appears to have gone on permanent vacation, expect Leavitt to only get more wealthy from here on out. Previous Trump press secretaries haven’t spent long in the job, with Trump himself highly critical of any flaws in whoever’s representing him. That said, Leavitt appears to be excelling at reiterating Trump’s chaos firmly and with a straight face, so she may stick around for a while yet.

Even once her tenure in the White House is over, look forward to seeing her clamber aboard the conservative media gravy train that goes straight through Fox News central. Once she emerges from the other side she’ll be cackling and throwing fistfuls of hundos around like a lady Scrooge McDuck before, I dunno, showing up dressed like a Rastafarian duck on The Masked Singer or something.

Because I have. They don’t get charged on foreign companies. They get charged on the importer.” Leavitt ultimately responded that the tariffs would lead to increased revenue and wages for Americans. She said, “I think it’s insulting that you’re trying to test my knowledge of economics and the decisions that this President has made. I now regret giving a question to the Associated Press.”

The current political climate in the United States is exhausting to keep up with, made all the more draining by the digital public square and its endless expressions of hatred, vocal shortsightedness, and rampant misinformation. By now, we all know how MAGA loves fabricating and spreading conspiracy theories, provided these abide by their biases and do not go against their idol.

Recently, one such theory made the rounds on social media, seeking this time to discredit both The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the news outlet POLITICO – which some people have someway, somehow, dubbed as being “far-left.”

After the outlet was unable to pay its staff due to a “technical error” that was resolved on the same day, conspiracy theorists started pushing the narrative that USAID – which has essentially been shut down by DOGE – had given POLITICO a whopping $8 million in funds. This surely meant the government was sponsoring the publication to act as a Democratic propaganda machine.

Are any of these claims and subsequent assumptions based on facts? While Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that “THIS COULD BE THE BIGGEST SCANDAL OF THEM ALL, PERHAPS THE BIGGEST IN HISTORY!” it can hardly even be called a scandal. But who cares about details when a story fits perfectly into your political agenda?

Chicken Little: USAID version

To Donald Trump and his two istrations, conspiracy theories have served to rally through outrage at disembodied facts that are put together like Frankenstein’s monster: In whichever manner best suits the MAGA leader and those within his political circle.

Before the President started openly promoting this conspiracy, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, having been “made aware of the funding from USAID to media outlets including POLITICO,” confirmed to reporters in a briefing that “the more than $8 million taxpayers dollars that have gone to essentially subsidizing subscriptions to POLITICO on the American taxpayers’ dime will no longer be happening. The DOGE team is working on canceling those payments now.”

These misleading cries of “Wolf!” were echoed by the likes of Elon Musk, and Fox News producer Kyle Becker:

In reality, during the fiscal years of 2023 and 2024, the total amount of money POLITICO received from USAID was $44 thousand. Moreover, there was no nefarious or manipulative intent like these Right-wingers have argued. Many U.S. governmental agencies and organizations – led by both Democrats and Republicans – have used the paid Politico Pro service to access helpful data. On its website, Politco Pro promises to help government employees

“Stay ahead of the rapid transformation of personnel and policy across the West Wing, in the Cabinet, federal agencies and Congress […]. From executive orders and legislative action to regulatory overhauls and the transformation of government, our specialist reporting, data analysis, and expert briefings covering 22 policy areas empower public affairs professionals to anticipate and shape what comes next.”

As the reporter and X Rachel Barnart pointed out, the government agencies were simply paying for a service that was useful to them, allowing staff to easily keep up with the recurrent fluctuations in an ever-developing political backdrop. Furthermore, POLITICO wasn’t the only media outlet and paywalled subscription service that was adopted for similar ends.

In light of the incendiary “debate on X,” POLITICO CEO Goli Sheikholeslami and Editor-in-Chief John F. Harris had to issue a “Note to Our Readers.” Therein they reaffirm how, like most digital outlets, the publication “is ed by advertising and sponsorships,” not by “subsidies,” “grants,” or “handouts.” The only caveat they note is precisely how their “professional subscription service” has been used by government agencies, not to obtain favors but in order to access invaluable information “on the work of the agencies, regulators and policymakers throughout our vast federal government. Businesses and entities within the government find it useful as they navigate the chaotic regulatory and legislative landscape.”

To distill this pile of information to its essence: This non-scandal was never dealing with masked corruption. The thousands of dollars to POLITICO were paid in exchange for a service widely used by government workers to stay up to date on information that’s integral to their functions.

Freshly-minted White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt followed in the footsteps of her predecessors with the embrace of a now time-honored tradition on her very first appearance at the podium.

Like Sean Spicer before her, Leavitt made the bold and very Trumpian decision to lie — or at least massively stretch the truth — on her first day in front of reporters. For Spicer, it was crowd sizes, but Leavitt made the interesting decision to instead zero her lies in on condoms, of all things.

Its an interesting choice to carry on Spicer’s tradition of dishonesty for Donald Trump‘s second term, but it does suit the new istration well. Trump is the king of falsehoods — his entire brand, at this point, is lying. He’ll lie about anything, from his own credentials, plans, and still-forming team to major announcements that affect the American people. If we expect anything but dishonesty from him at this point, that’s on us.

Which also should make it anything but surprising that Leavitt chose the orange man’s way into sharing information. Rather than deliver actual truths to gathered reporters, the youngest Press Secretary in history instead chose to massively inflate and warp the numbers handed down to her in a strange attempt to smear the Biden istration and prop up Trump.

Leavitt claimed, in her Jan. 27 debut, that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency “found that there was about to be 50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza,” and instantly sparked confusion. $50 million in condoms? Just in condoms? That’s a truly massive amount, and it sent predictable shockwaves through the public as people processed the claim.

This was only compounded when President Trump added his voice to Leavitt’s, repeating the absurd metric on Wednesday, before fact-checkers came in to examine the claim. That’s when things started to crumble, as respected sources like AP, Al Jazeera, and Reuters pushed back on Trump and Leavitt’s wild assertions.

There is absolutely no evidence to back the crackpot condom claims, numerous sources have found. While it does appear to be true that Trump blocked funding for Gaza programs upheld by humanitarian organization International Medical Corps’ (IMC), the $50 million claim seems to be massively inflated. There are funds intended for contraception, like condoms, included, but not at such a high price point.

That was underlined by both IMC and the president of Refugees International, Jeremy Konyndyk. The former noted that “no U.S. government funding was used to procure or distribute condoms, nor provide family-planning services.” The latter added a hilarious breakdown of what Trump and Leavitt’s claims would equal out to, and he even did the math for us.

“So look – on the “Gaza condoms” thing,” Konyndyk wrote to social media. “USAID procures condoms for around $0.05 apiece. $50m would be ONE BILLION condoms.”

So there you have it. No, the U.S. is not spending tens of millions on funding for condoms in Gaza. While the government does seemingly put plenty of money aside to assist with contraceptives and family planning in nations across the globe — including Palestine — it doesn’t come close to the numbers touted by Leavitt and Trump.
