Marvel Studios is no stranger to leadership switch-ups, but it’s not always that a change like this results in new information about films being shared. Well, today is that day, as one big Marvel Studios change has given us insight into an MCU sequel. 3p4m1f

Nate Moore, a longtime executive at Marvel Studios who has worked on many of the biggest MCU films will be leaving the company in 2025, a decision first reported on by Deadline.

In the report was also a statement from other Marvel Studios executives including Kevin Feige, which revealed that Moore will be hanging around to produce one more film, and that’s none other than the highly anticipated sequel, Black Panther 3.

“Nate is a fantastic executive and colleague as well as a wonderful friend to all of us here at Marvel Studios. He has been a core member of our team since 2010, and his influence will continue to reverberate in our storytelling. Although we’ll miss him a great deal, we look forward to watching what he does next while also having the good fortune of working with him in a new way on our next Black Panther movie.”

While there had been plenty of indications that Black Panther 3 was in the works, this is the very first time that Feige confirmed it himself, so we can all relax knowing that it truly is happening now.

The first indication that Black Panther 3 was happening came back in November when legendary actor Denzel Washington was promoting Gladiator 2. During this press tour, the star mentioned that Ryan Coogler was writing him a role for the sequel. Now whether he actually will show up in the sequel is yet to be confirmed, but given its existence, it does appear to be promising.

Coogler wrote and directed both Black Panther and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, so having him back for the third installment makes a lot of sense. Right now it isn’t yet clear what this third movie would focus on, whether it be Shuri once again as the Black Panther, or T’Challa’s child living up to his father’s legacy. Both are great options, so we’re excited to see what Marvel Studios is cooking.

Other factors happening in the MCU may also play a big factor in what goes down in the sequel given the franchise’s current focus on the multiverse. Perhaps once we see some of the Marvel films land in theaters it could paint a better picture of what’s next for the people of Wakanda.

As you might have already guessed, there are no details regarding the release date for Black Panther 3 yet, and we wouldn’t expect to see that information shared for quite a while. The good news is that it is still happening, so fans should sit back and relax while waiting for more news to surface in 2025.

MCU stars are forever terrified of saying too much in interviews, lest they earn the wrath of Kevin Feige. Not Denzel Washington, though. The Equalizer himself has no fear of Marvel’s snipers as he has now openly itted that he’s headed for his comic book movie debut as director Ryan Coogler is writing a role for him in MCU threequel Black Panther 3.

Actually, someone might want to check that Feige didn’t just have a coronary, as Washington gave away multiple revelations in one spoiler-filled response. Until the legendary actor dropped this bombshell, we didn’t even know Black Panther 3 was officially moving forward at Marvel Studios, nor that it was far enough along the pre-production process to be securing actors and developing its script.

Washington even claimed that this will be his last project before his retirement from acting, so Marvel landing the great man’s final film role is a huge coup that the studio no doubt hoped to hold back and announce at some future event. e.g. next year’s Comic-Con. Instead, Washington gave the news away to Today while promoting Gladiator II.

But the cat — or the panther, rather — is out of the bag now, and it can’t be put back in. So, seeing as we know Washington has a good shot of appearing in Black Panther 3, it’s left to us to speculate… Who could be be playing?

Washington has been linked to the MCU for years now, with rumors pointing to him playing Magneto in Marvel’s X-Men reboot or replacing Jonathan Majors as Kang. Technically, both of these could still occur in Black Panther 3, but the more probable turn of events is that he will be portraying a character with a more direct connection to the mythology of Wakanda.

You don’t cast someone like Washington and not hand them a role that requires acres of gravitas and pathos, someone who will command the attention and respect of both the audience and the other characters. For this reason, my personal theory is that Washington will turn up as King Bashenga, the ancient warrior shaman who was the first king of Wakanda and its first protector as the Black Panther.

The ancestral plane has allowed for several deceased characters from Wakanda’s Royal line to return over the first two films, so there’s every chance this will continue in the threequel. Now she’s firmly entrenched as queen of her nation, Shuri will likely need further guidance as she continues to grapple with the immense legacy she has inherited. Yes, we would love for Angela Bassett’s Ramonda to return somehow, but it would be even more impressive and impactful to the lore if Shuri could receive a vision of Bashenga and learn the truth of how the Black Panther mantle began.

The signs are already there that Ryan Coogler is keen to explore Wakanda’s ancient past and the history of the Black Panther. 2025 will see Eyes of Wakanda hit Disney Plus — an animated anthology show which will showcase Wakandan warriors from previous generations and centuries. This would be the perfect way to set up Bashenga appearing in the flesh in Black Panther 3.

Or, who knows, maybe Denzel Washington could turn up as Old Man Kang for a single movie, say peace out, and then retire. We wouldn’t even be mad.

In the best proof there is that, whatever happens, the MCU will keep on turning, just days after Jonathan Majors’ removal from the franchise as Kang, Marvel is already unleashing its latest offering in the form of What If…? season 2.

Meanwhile, although the MCU is indomitable, its old rival the DCEU is finally calling it a day with the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, ahead of James Gunn’s DCU reboot. But, true to form, its already losing a box office battle with Marvel…

Well, how else was 2023 going to end but with one last superhero movie bomb? Yes, surprising no one whatsoever, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is failing to make a splash with festive audiences. What is a little shocking, though, is that it’s proving even more disastrous than The Marvels — you know, the lowest-grossing MCU film of all time. With a projected opening weekend gross of just $40+ million, it’s likely to fall short of The Marvels‘s mere $46 million. It’s already fallen short on its Thursday previews — earning just $4.5 million to The Marvels $6.6. million.

What If…? season 2 is set to be a daily festive treat for Marvel fans across the globe this yuletide with all nine episodes dropping one after the other over Christmas week. Episode 1, set in a universe where Nebula has ed the Nova Corps, maybe wasn’t the show’s finest hour yet, but it was an entertaining Blade Runner riff. Although the fact that it brought back Glenn Close’s Nova Prime for the first time since 2014 a) sans Glenn Close and then b) only to do the character dirty isn’t going down too well. Close, but no cigar, Marvel.

The Black Panther franchise is in a strange place right now, as we just got the announcement of the Eyes of Wakanda animated series but we still don’t have an official update on Black Panther 3. The latest rumors, however, are claiming that Marvel is desperate to get such a much-anticipated threequel going, apparently alongside Doctor Strange 3, in order to lift up the MCU’s broken spirits. Don’t put too much stock in this yet, then, but this rumor is enough to set off those who are determined for Marvel to recast T’Challa as they don’t like Shuri as Black Panther.

As ever, the legendary Chadwick Boseman getting replaced seems like a long shot, but recent events have certainly taught us that you can never predict what’s coming next in the MCU. ‘Nuff said.

Black Panther 3 is a matter of when, not if. But, before then, we’re going to be returning to Wakanda with Disney Plus animated series Eyes of Wakanda and the long-in-development spinoff show starring Danai Gurira’s Okoye.

Ryan Coogler will have his hands busy with those projects for some time, though we’re certain that somewhere behind the scenes plans are busy being formulated for a full sequel centered around Letitia Wright’s Shuri.

Current rumors say Marvel Studios is running scared after The Marvels debacle and is hoping to fast-track the third installments in the Black Panther and Doctor Strange series, likely because the recent sequels were hits. A spanner is thrown into that moneymaking theory by a hint that Eternals 2 is also greenlit — we’ll believe that when we see it.

Regardless, the fan community is hoping for some Black Panther 3 confirmation soon… though along with it there are predictable demands for a plot twist we’re desperately hoping doesn’t happen.

If Chadwick Boseman hadn’t tragically died in 2020 T’Challa would have been the lead character of Black Panther 2. With Marvel Studios quickly ruling out a CGI Boseman double. Coogler rewrote the entire movie and tackled the situation head-on. As such, the opening of the movie sees Shuri receiving news of her brother’s death, we get an extended funeral scene for T’Challa in the first act, and the rest of the movie effectively takes place in his shadow.

As the story ends Shuri has embraced her new role as Wakanda’s Black Panther and the mid-credits scene reveals that Nakia and T’Challa had a secret son who’s named after his dad. If the MCU keeps going long enough, this child may well grow up to be his father’s successor, meaning a T’Challa will once again be Black Panther.

But fans can’t wait that long. They want T’Challa back for Black Panther 3 and, to be fair, Marvel Studios has left the door wide open for that to happen via the Multiverse. As such, there are many calls for Boseman’s role to be recast with a new actor:

“Why can’t they find someone who might look like Chadwick and have him as the Black Panther.? At least the fans like us will appreciate seeing this amazing character ( King T’Challa) back again.”

While I miss T’Challa as much as everyone, I’m hoping they don’t bring him back anytime soon. Shuri has barely gotten comfortable in her new role, the arrival of a multiversal T’Challa variant would undermine the story of Wakanda Forever, and it still feels disrespectful to recast Boseman’s most iconic role.

One day another actor will play T’Challa, though whoever that is will be filling some incredibly big shoes and we don’t envy them one bit. Until then we’re eager to see where the Wakandan saga goes next and will be looking out for clues in Eyes of Wakanda and updates on the Okoye spinoff.

It’s ironic that after all of the backlash in the buildup to release concerning her alleged stance on vaccinations, Letitia Wright emerged from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as one of the most widely-praised aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel.

There was skepticism that she’d be able to step into the daunting shoes of the late Chadwick Boseman by inheriting the titular mantle, but a ferociously committed performance ended up winning over many of the doubters. In fact, fans are genuinely excited to see where Shuri’s arc heads in the inevitable Black Panther 3, and the actress has a wild idea of her own.

In an interview with Inverse, Wright revealed that she’d be keen to explore the storyline introduced in Ta Nehisi Coates’ A Nation Under Our Feet run, which saw the princess of Wakanda sacrifice herself and end up being placed into a status called “living death,” which leaves her soul in limbo.

“She took the mantle at a time where people really doubted her. She actually takes on a new form in the future. She really never dies, which is really interesting. She has these amazing crazy superpowers, and she’s an encyclopedia of information. She’s Griot times a thousand.”

Will we see Shuri end up becoming a sentient AI in the Black Panther threequel? It’s doubtful seeing as somebody else would be required to play the actual main role in costume, but it does at least present a method of keeping her around in the future should Ryan Coogler’s franchise follow the MCU’s usual rule of three.

Last night’s Academy Awards ceremony was fairly low on shocks and upsets, but the biggest by far was Everything Everywhere All at Once star Jamie Lee Curtis emerging victorious in the Best ing Actress race at the expense of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s Angela Bassett.

The latter had already done the thing by becoming the first Marvel Cinematic Universe alum to earn an Oscar nomination for performing in one of the franchise’s blockbuster comic book adaptations, and she was the heavy favorite going in after scooping the majority of major trophies beforehand.

And yet, Everything Everywhere All at Once simply couldn’t be stopped, with Curtis taking home the golden baldie as one of the multiversal caper’s seven gongs in total.

Despite being critical of Kevin Feige’s sandbox in the past, the Halloween icon has itted that she’d be open to boarding the MCU if the right opportunity arose, and what better chance than Black Panther 3 to have her hop on the train formerly held aloft by the rival that launched a thousand memes when Bassett’s stony-faced expression stole the show from Curtis’ name being read aloud?

Sure, there would be a huge element of spitefulness about it – especially after what happened to Queen Ramonda in Wakanda Forever – but it would be guaranteed to get people talking at the very least. Every ongoing saga could be improved by an extra helping of Jamie Lee Curtis, so why not cast her as someone with close ties to Martin Freeman’s “colonizer” Everett Ross simply to shoehorn her in and reignite the fervor that dominated Oscar night?

It might be nothing but imaginative spitballing, but it’d be worth it simply to watch the internet react.

When it was confirmed that Namor would the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the main antagonist of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a vista of possibilities opened up to the franchise. 

With a comic book history taking all the way back to 1939, Namor’s storylines have overlapped with dozens of other superheroes throughout the years, making his return to the MCU beyond Wakanda Forever not only possible but inevitable. While his future remains relatively up in the air at the moment, fans haven’t halted their theories about where he could make his encore appearance next. 

Actor Tenoch Huerta Mejía has made it known that he’d love to continue playing the Sub-Mariner in future Marvel projects. Now, it’s just a matter of figuring out where his character could show up next. There are several possibilities that span all the way to Avengers: Secret Wars (since pretty much every Marvel character will make an appearance in that one) but here are the movies where Namor is most likely to make an appearance.

It goes without question that the most likely return for Namor will be in Black Panther 3, even if the threequel hasn’t been confirmed yet (well, not according to Letitia Wright). Given Namor’s temporary truce with Wakanda at the end of Wakanda Forever, there’s a high chance the stakes could be raised in Black Panther 3 since it’s clear Marvel isn’t finished with its vibranium storyline. The likelihood is high that an all-out war between not only Talocan and Wakanda but also the United States government is on the horizon.

For those unfamiliar with this complicated storyline from the comics, Namor actually has a rich history with the Fantastic Four in that he fell in love with Sue Storm. The Sub-Mariner often stole her off to Atlantis (Talokan in the MCU) on multiple occasions in attempts to make her his queen. That’s not to say Sue doesn’t love Reed Richards; they are Marvel’s First Family after all. There’s just a bit of a love triangle going on – Marvel’s first love triangle, we might add. This means the “boy without love” could very well find some should Marvel choose to explore that storyline. Fantastic Four could be the perfect place for it, and possibly the next time we see Namor since the movie has a confirmed release date of Feb. 14, 2025, whereas Black Panther 3 hasn’t even been greenlit.

You may be wondering why Namor would make an appearance in the X-Men movies, but the history between the two actually runs pretty deep. If you recall, Namor referred to himself as a mutant in Wakanda Forever – and that’s because he is. In the ‘60s, he was even referred to as the “first known mutant of our time.” It’s still a way to go before the X-Men officially the MCU (likely to kick off with Deadpool 3 on Nov. 8, 2024), but it’s surely only a matter of time before Namor is worked into the equation.

There’s a reason it took the MCU so long to bring Namor into the fold. As it turns out, Universal controls the rights to any standalone adventures of the ruler of Atlantis (Talokan in the MCU), similar to Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. That doesn’t mean we won’t get more Namor – it just means he’ll be relegated to ing roles. But hey, as mentioned above, ing roles don’t necessarily mean boring roles. There’s a ton of source material ripe for the picking. It’s just a matter of which bits Marvel takes and which it leaves behind. 

The Golden Globes isn’t often a notable event for the Marvel universe, but it seems like things are changing as the franchise just broke the glass ceiling at this year’s historic 80th ceremony. Meanwhile, a sequel to one of Phase Four’s best films might already be on its way as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s other much-anticipated villain (sorry, Kang, we’re not talking about you for once) could rescue the reputation of an Iron Man 3 evil.

In a well-deserved win, Angela Bassett walked away with the Best ing Actress award at the 80th Golden Globes ceremony this Monday for her powerhouse turn as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the process, she becomes the very first star to land herself the accolade for a performance in a Marvel Studios production. Now we just have to wait and see if Wakanda Forever can repeat its predecessor’s success at the Academy Awards as well.

The Golden Globes also delivered another unexpected bonus for Black Panther fans as the new protector of Wakanda herself, Letitia Wright, appears to have let slip that the next chapter in the saga could be arriving much sooner than we guessed. The British actress seemed to confirm that Black Panther 3 is already in the works, despite the sequel only hitting theaters a couple of months ago. A potential threequel isn’t officially on Marvel’s docket as yet, but it looks like it’s only a matter of time.

Corey Stoll’s totally unexpected (I mean, we never saw this coming…) return as M.O.D.O.K. in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will hopefully go some way to redeeming Yellowjacket, one of the MCU’s more forgettable villains. What’s more, fans are predicting that he might end up fixing up a similarly weak antagonist from way back in Iron Man 3. The hope is that M.O.D.O.K. could be revealed as the real brains behind A.I.M., originally introduced as Aldrich Killian’s baby. What with Wenwu being outed as the real “Mandarin” in Shang-Chi, Killian is slowly being erased from continuity. Aw, shame.

Hugh Jackman caused waves when he appeared to let slip that Deadpool 3 was really called Wolverine and Deadpool, something that the Australian X-Man and Ryan Reynolds have now successfully gaslit us all into thinking was a deliberate gag. Reynolds has once more proven that he can’t let it go while making fans’ days all over again by laying into his frenemy and soon-to-be-co-star yet again in his latest hilarious video. Won’t be long until the pair will be suiting up together to shoot their Marvel threequel.

Letitia Wright is only a month or so shy of finally being done with her press duties from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever so she may not have been on her guard on the Golden Globes red carpet tonight when asked about the future of the franchise — and she may just have shined the green light for the third Panther installment for all the world to see.

When asked by Variety when we might get Black Panther 3 greenlit, Wright replied, “I think it’s already in the works.” Wright added that the massive undertaking of Wakanda Forever has the whole team in need of a break and that director Ryan Coogler would need to head “back to the lab” before any new production could start.

“It’s gonna take a while, but really excited for you guys to see that,” Wright added.

Wright will likely be involved more heavily in a third Panther film than she has ever been before now that her character Shuri has taken on the mantle of the title character following the death of former lead Chadwick Boseman. Wright sustained a fractured shoulder and a concussion while filming a stunt during the Wakanda Forever shoot and the production had to work around her absence while she spent several months recovering from the injuries.

It will likely be a long wait between now and the future project and it will probably even take at least a year and perhaps longer before the cast and crew are announced but fans will certainly celebrate the fact that a new installment is currently in the Marvel Studios pipeline.

Wakanda Forever is already a winner at the 2023 Golden Globes with Angela Bassett taking home the prize for her ing role in the movie.

Some Marvel fans took one look at the first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and called for a new actor to be cast in role of King T’Challa.

After the teaser premiered at San Diego Comic-Con, some fans noted that a cover of the Bob Marley classic No Woman, No Cry was playing in the background as the footage emphasized the characters Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje. A number of fans became convinced that the footage is showing Wakandans mourning the loss of their king, and many have deduced that his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) will become the new Black Panther and ruler.

After the trailer was released, the hashtag #RecastTChalla started trending on social media. This generated a discussion about whether some Marvel fans are opposed to seeing a woman take T’Challa’s place.

T’Challa was originally played by Chadwick Boseman, a once-in-a-generation actor who embodied the role so perfectly that fans urged Marvel Studios not to recast him after he tragically succumbed to complications from colon cancer in 2020.

However, the notion that T’Challa might be succeeded by his little sister Shuri has fans singing a different tune.

Topside 7717 insisted that the sudden call to see another actor in T’Challa’s role isn’t about Shuri’s gender, but a genuine desire to see more of his storyline on screen.

Another fan elaborated King T’Challa’s trajectory in the Black Panther comic books, and lamented the character’s unexplored potential in relation to other figures in the MCU, including a marriage to Storm of the X-Men, becoming a member of the Illuminati, and thrashing the Fantastic Four.

FayettevillevillainT pointed out that if any other actor who portrayed a hero in the MCU ed away, their roles would be recast so that the storylines could continue.

Another fan reinforced their position by posting a portion of commentary from Roland Martin Unfiltered that featured a clip of Boseman talking about the importance of creating opportunities for Black actors by letting go of the notion that there is only space for one.

JohnSLPaul tweeted that it’s not fair that T’Challa seems to get killed off in every Marvel movie and series he appears in, including multiverse storylines.

Marvel Studios has not confirmed whether or not Shuri will be the next Black Panther, nor have they responded to the push to recast T’Challa and send Ryan Coogler back to the drawing board.

At the end of the day, all of the scenes featured in the trailer are taken out of context. Fear of the unknown seems to be driving most the speculation on social media. The reality is that the fate of T’Challa and his fellow Wakandans will remain a mystery until the film’s highly anticipated premiere.

With the notable exception of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, the majority of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s marquee heroes have so far tended to follow the rule of three. It applied to Iron Man and Captain America, James Gunn already itted that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will mark his last involvement with the band of cosmic misfits, and if you view Infinity War and Endgame as two halves of the same story, then the original lineup of the Avengers also embarked on a trilogy of adventures. Of course, the Spider-Man 3 will definitely not be the last of Tom Holland’s solo outings, but Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania could well be a swansong of sorts for Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, especially if the Young Avengers end up factoring into the story as has been widely rumored. The MCU is always moving forward, though, with Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Black Panther all getting their first sequels in 2022.

Despite the character’s solo debut becoming the most successful entry in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that wasn’t an Avengers movie, many fans feel that Black Panther was sidelined during the events of Infinity War and Endgame. Wakanda may have been a featured location during the former’s third act, but T’Challa was reduced to a foot-soldier among the ensemble cast, and didn’t appear again until Endgame’s climactic battle. We won’t be seeing Black Panther again until Phase Five, and even that’s subject to speculation that Marvel could be laying the foundations for Shuri to eventually step up and inherit the mantle as per comic book history, something that Chadwick Boseman reportedly isn’t best pleased about. But now we’ve heard that another story that originated in the pages of Marvel Comics could be set to play a major part in the eventual third Black Panther movie.
