Actor Jason Biggs has spoken openly about his battle with cocaine addiction, describing a terrifying low point where he dug through a garbage can to recover drugs he had thrown away. The star of American Pie, who became famous early in his career thanks to the popular movie series, shared his story on the Well with Arielle Lorre podcast. He gave a clear and honest of how deep his addiction went and how hard it was to recover.

As found by Page Six, Biggs explained how he kept falling into the same pattern of using drugs, feeling regret, and then using again. He would tell himself he was taking his last line of cocaine, throw the rest away, and then, just minutes later, the craving would hit him so strongly that he would go back to retrieve what he had discarded.

This cycle hit its worst point when he actually climbed into his own trash bin to get the cocaine he had thrown out. He said, “One of my craziest stories was, I was doing cocaine by myself in my house, and I did what I said was the last line…. Within 15 minutes, as soon as my last bump is wearing off, I’m like, what am I doing? I go into my trash, and I take it out and I do a line.

Biggs’ early rise to fame, thanks to American Pie (due for a reboot) when he was just 22 years old, played a big role in his addiction struggles. He found that being a celebrity made it easy to get drugs because people were willing to give him what he wanted. This easy access made his existing substance abuse problems worse and kept him trapped in a harmful cycle.

The mix of fame, money, and constant access to drugs created the perfect conditions for his addiction to grow. The actor also itted that he hid the full extent of his addiction from his wife, Jenny Mollen, during the early years of their relationship and marriage. While he didn’t go into detail about how he kept it secret, his confession makes it clear that he worked hard to appear normal while fighting his addiction in private.

This kind of behavior is common in severe addiction, showing how isolating it can be and how hard it is for people to it they need help. The lies and secrecy often come from a place of shame and fear as addicts try to shield themselves and their loved ones from the truth.

A major step in Biggs’ recovery came when he moved from Los Angeles to New York City, before talks of a fifth movie were happening. He believes that the change in surroundings and energy in New York helped him recover, though he its he still relapsed even after the move.

On Mar. 3 Canadian American Pie veteran and entrepreneur Jasmine Mooney was detained at the U.S. Border in San Diego and informed that her application for a work visa was “incomplete”. In ordinary circumstances Mooney would either be given notice to complete her application correctly or, in the worst-case scenario, denied entry to the United States.

But we don’t live in “ordinary circumstances” anymore, so Mooney was dragged from her car, cuffed, and taken to a detention facility. There she spent three nights before being transferred in chains to the Arizona’s San Luis detention center, where she spent almost two weeks in hell.

Mooney detailed her internment to her mother, Alexis Eagles, who relayed her story to the Vancouver Sun newspaper. Her daughter – who had no criminal record and hadn’t been charged with any crime – was housed with around thirty people “in a single concrete cell with no natural light, fluorescent lights that are never turned off, no mats, no blankets, and limited bathroom facilities.”

Mooney herself gave an interview to ABC 10 describing the conditions she encountered in the San Luis private detention facility as akin to torture: “I was put in a cell, and I had to sleep on a mat with no blanket, no pillow, with an aluminum foil wrapped over my body like a dead body for two and a half days.”She went on to explain: “Every single guard that sees me is like, ‘What are you doing here? I don’t understand. You’re Canadian. How are you here?’”

She was released over the weekend and flew back to Vancouver airport, to be met with a crowd of reporters eager to learn more about her detainment. At the time she said “I’m still, to be honest, really processing everything, I haven’t slept in a while and haven’t eaten proper food in a while, so I’m just really going through the motions.” Later, after a rest, she summarized her experience in an Instagram story, saying:

“Thank you for all your messages of . I’m sorry if I haven’t been able to respond to everyone – just got home after what felt like escaping a deeply disturbing psychological experiment. … While I was in prison, I began writing an essay about my experience, which I will be sharing soon. I refuse to let what happened break me; instead, I’m choosing to use my voice in the hope that it can help others.”

There are an increasing number of terrifying stories like this emerging over the last few weeks, including a British backpacker tourist Rebecca Burke being held for three weeks while attempting to enter the U.S. from Canada and being told her visa was incorrect.

Stories like these have already had a chilling effect on U.S. tourism as, understandably, people don’t want to risk visiting the United States if they’re in danger of being tossed into a nightmare detention center on a flimsy pretext.

Right now you might be scoffing that this could ever happen to you, but since the inauguration, U.S. Immigration, ICE, and Homeland Security have been let off the leash to detain whoever they like regardless of any crimes committed or constitutional protections. So, if you’re around U.S. officials say as little as possible and demand a lawyer.

Tara Reid is one of those names we haven’t heard circulated in Tinseltown for a while. We all know her as Kevin’s girlfriend Vicky in American Pie, the 2000s movie we obsessed over — or watched in secret, depending on our age at the time — but where did Reid go after that?

But while we might sit back and laugh at the type of films that get such honors — or dishonors? — we can it it would feel pretty crummy to receive those nominations.

The last film featuring the original cast, American Reunion, was released in 2012, but if Hollywood has proven anything, it’s that legacy sequels will always draw the fans back in.

Seann William Scott, the man responsible for American Pie’s most enduring (and quotable) character, Stifler, discussed the idea of making another film during an interview with ComicBook. He not only confirmed that he would be interested in doing it, but that he’s already come up with a pitch as to what the film would be about.

Scott’s pitch would involve Stifler, and the character’s struggle to adapt in a society that’s much more politically correct than it was two decades ago. “It would be so much fun to see, I think, fun, but also really fascinating to see a guy like Stifler in his mid-forties today trying to figure things out,” the actor opined. “A guy who hasn’t really changed that much, but the world has changed, you know, what would his life be like? … Is there a fun end to a story?”

It’s an intriguing pitch, given that Stifler is emblematic of the zany, oftentimes crass humor that made the original films so popular and would likely keep them from getting made today. Taking a more grounded approach to the character, and finding humor in how out of step he would be with young people today, would be a clever way to continue the American Pie brand while at the same time updating it for modern audiences.

This is not the first time that talk of a fifth mainline American Pie film has surfaced. In fall 2022, Universal Studios announced that a sequel was going into production, and Scott’s co-star Jason Biggs confirmed that he would be interested in reprising the role of Jim Levenstein. Little else has been said about the film, however, leading many fans to conclude that it won’t be happening.

Scott’s idea is independent of the Universal announcement, so perhaps it will help to get the wheels turning once again. The actor is enthusiastic, but also unsure of whether it will catch on enough to secure a green light. “We have to have a great idea, and especially these days, it has to be awesome,” he explained. “You know, comedy is tough, and they have always been tough, but you know, comedies have really changed… I don’t know if it’ll ever happen.”

The status of the fifth American Pie film is still up in the air, but it’s an encouraging sign to see actors like Scott and Biggs continue to be vocal about their ion for the franchise and their desire to return. This ion, coupled with the surprise success of co-stars like Jennifer Coolidge and Eugene Levy (who recently took home Emmy Awards for The White Lotus and Schitt’s Creek, respectively), and we may get to see the gang back together yet.

Get ready for another rowdy coming of age story in the form of a new American Pie film, which is inbound from the writing talents of Sujata Day, the mind behind Definition Please, and the star of Insecure.

At this point in time, not a whole lot is known about the new entry to the long-running raunchy comedy series besides the Day’s writing credit, originally reported by THR, so it is unclear whether it will see the return of the cast from the mainline films or if it will be another American Pie Presents: spin-off. It’s surely more likely to be the latter, considering the original American Pie’s aging cast coming together for a ‘re-reunion’ would be kind of grim, but we’ve been surprised before.

The last time we saw American Pie’s original cast consisting of Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Chris Klein, Alyson Hannigan, and Tara Reid among others come together was ten years ago in American Reunion. Set thirteen years after the ensemble cast’s graduation, the gang’s all grown up and starting families, with fan-favorite jock Stifler unsurprisingly being the least grown up of the lot. It featured plenty of callbacks to the most hilarious moments the series had to offer.

Sujata Day’s American Pie film would mark the ninth entry in the ongoing sex comedy franchise, with the most recent addition being 2020’s American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules which currently sits at a paltry 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. 

While the film series has never particularly been a critical success, with even the original American Pie sitting at a lukewarm 60% rating, something about this film franchise keeps bringing its audience back.

Earlier this year, Steven Stifler actor Seann William Scott reflected on the legacy of American Pie, musing that the sex-fuelled film series probably wouldn’t have been made in today’s day and age. 

American Pie and recent Emmy nominee Jennifer Coolidge has opened up about some of the benefits she’s found from being a part of the comedy classic and they aren’t all financial.

Speaking to Variety, Coolidge confessed that thanks to her role as Stifler’s mum in the series she has slept with hundreds of people.

“You know, I got a lot of play being a MILF, and I got a lot of sexual action from American Pie. There were so many benefits to doing that movie. There would have been like 200 people that I would have never had slept with.”

When the original American Pie film launched in 1999 Coolidge’s career quickly rose to new heights. The character of Stifler’s mum earns the reputation of MILF as she pursues one of her son’s classmates Paul Finch played by Eddie Kaye Thomas.

This reputation would seem to have carried over into the real world as the iconic comedy made its way into homes and on streaming services over the last 23 years.

While the days of American Pie may be over Coolidge who is now 60 has now netted her first Emmy Nomination for starring in HBO’s hit show The White Lotus portraying Tanya McQuoid.

Coolidge will go head-to-head with four other actors from The White Lotus for the Emmy as well as two of the stars of Hulu’s Dopesick.

Those who haven’t yet checked out The White Lotus can binge through the show’s first season on HBO Max now as we await the arrival of season two later this year.

The American Pie films made us laugh, squirm and look differently at baked goods and musical instruments when the series first began in 1999 and now original film star Seann William Scott said the idea would not work out in 2022.

“You know, I was having a conversation with a friend the other day, I was like, ‘you could never make American Pie these days.’ Some of the stuff in that movie, you would probably get arrested and probably go to jail for a long time if you did it. I think a lot of the broader comedies, a lot of the stuff that gave me a career, I don’t see there ever being an appetite for those sort of movies again. I mean, I could be wrong. I think some of the broad comedies can be fun but people are, it feels like, myself included, appreciating more of a witty, smart humor and good writing as opposed to just something kind of over-the-top.”

The man who portrayed Steve Stifler made the comments during an interview with the Jake’s Takes YouTube channel yesterday to promote his Welcome to Flatch television series. Scott added he did not entirely know what he was talking about and said he would love to see Stifler break the fourth wall and address the audience about a work.

“Seeing that character in that would be so much fun. I don’t know if that’s even possible, but that guy having to stop what he’s doing and talk about what he’s feeling and what’s going on I think would be very funny.”

Scott last appeared as the character in 2012’s American Reunion. As for the Pie-verse, it did get a direct-to-video release in 2020 dubbed American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules which we reported was more innocent than earlier films.

Actor Jason Biggs has an infamous pie past, thanks to the American Pie series, and is now turning back to pastry and other sweet goods to host a new competition show in which the world’s best bakers give their all to win.

Today Deadline Hollywood reported the Orange Is the New Black star will be hosting Biggs Ass Bake Off for ITV America through their ThinkFactory Media imprint. The challenge will see competitors literally sleep in the kitchen while perfecting creations; each episode consists of a 24-hour baking challenge to craft an edible set to impress Biggs and guest judges, with subsequent challenges getting bigger as the season continues.

The piece does not have a release date or network set at this time. Biggs said in a quote to Deadline Hollywood he is pleased to be working on the production, and is distinctly aware of how it was something he was destined to get into.

“Over 20 years as the ‘pie guy’ has led me to this inevitable place – hosting and producing a baking show of epic proportions. I am incredibly excited to partner with the brilliant folks at ThinkFactory Media to bring audiences a show fit for this self-proclaimed ‘King of Pastry.’ The bakers’ creations will be beyond measure-ing cups and matched only by the drama of the competition. This is gonna be a fun one.”

Comedy is a product of its time. What is funny to one generation is utterly repellent to another. And this makes comedy remakes and reboots hard to pull off, as sometimes a previously hilarious concept simply can’t survive the update. Because of this, comedy history is littered with failed reboot attempts. And right now, a very controversial comedy reboot is shooting up the streaming charts.

According to FlixPatrol, 2020’s American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules is the 5th most popular movie on HBO, beating out Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984. The film is the 5th film in the American Pie Presents franchise. Which itself is a spin-off of the American Pie sex-comedy franchise that started in 1999.

American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules follows four friends, Annie, Kayla, Michelle, and Stephanie. The girls are all seniors at East Great Falls. They decide to team up to help each other get something they want. This includes everything from losing their virginity to blackmailing a perverted principal into retiring. Of course, in true American Pie fashion, these plans go anything but smoothly, and chaos quickly ensues, leading to many comedy setpieces.

As the film is a gender-flipped version of the franchise, made years after the original, some changes were made due to changing standards. In an interview with lrmonline.com, director Mike Elliott said that while he was a fan of the original American Pie, he was aware that many scenes from that movie wouldn’t be acceptable today. But he also noted that changing the focus to teen girls meant that a lot of the original‘s jokes wouldn’t work anyway, regardless of appropriateness.

Later in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Elliott said that the film was a much more innocent picture than previous entries in the franchise. However, he pointed out that this didn’t mean the movie had no dirty jokes, even saying he had a nude scene planned for Zachary Gordon’s character that ended up being vetoed by Universal. Elliott pointed out that this was due to a historic double standard about nudity in Hollywood. “Ever since there’s been movie ratings, there’s been this uncomfortableness that’s applied to male nudity, and not female nudity,” explained Elliott before noting that he hoped the scene could be restored in a later cut of the film.

However, despite these controversies, both audiences and critics were pretty united when they reviewed the film. In fact, both hated it. The film has a 30% critic score and a 16% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many reviews pointed out that a movie about teenage girls would have likely worked better with a female director. Others argued that the film was simply formulaic and lacked the memorable characters of previous films. Which meant that everything felt like a collection of disted sketches rather than a complete narrative.

It isn’t hard to see why American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules is shooting up the streaming charts as people are keen to find out how the pre-release controversy translated into an on-screen experience. So if you want to explore this reboot of a late-90s classic, now is the perfect time to do it.

The franchise may not have scored a theatrical release since 2012’s reunion movie, but American Pie is still going strong, although you’d be forgiven for not being completely aware of that fact. Sequels Band Camp, The Naked Mile, Beta House, The Book of Love and Girls’ Rules were all sent straight to video between 2005 and 2020, with the latter managing to crack the Netflix Top 10 most-watched list when it was added to the library last year. You’d have to be a complete and utter diehard fan of the series to have seen them all, even though American Pie was a massively popular property at the height of its success. Indeed, the four big screen outings combined to earn almost $990 million at the box office, and they still hold a special place in the hearts of a certain generation. Nostalgia is all the rage these days as we keep discovering, so it’s hardly a shock to learn that a script for American Pie 5 is floating around. Tara Reid was the one to break the news, and she also voiced her excitement about the project, saying the screenplay is definitely worthy of continuing the saga despite the gang having been away for close to a decade.

“It might happen. Okay, I can’t tell you when, because I don’t really know when, because we have to get all the actors and at the same time to get our schedules together. There is a script out there, I’ll put it that way, and it’s one of the best ones. It’s amazing, it will happen, I just don’t know when.”

Comedy sequels are arguably the hardest to get right, and we’ve seen many long-awaited follow-ups arrive over the last few years that have only served to disappoint, with the likes of Zoolander 2 and Dumb and Dumber To getting panned by critics, although Bill & Ted Face the Music was a minor triumph. In any case, the entire principal cast from the first American Pie are all in their 40s now, and after doing the wedding and reunion, we have to wonder, is the mid-life crisis next?

Not only is there a full script, but Reid rates it highly, calling it “one of the best ones” of the whole series. She also clarified that it “will happen. I just don’t know when.” The actress went on to talk about how the cast still keep in even after all this time, too, saying that they have a lifelong bond thanks to their shared experience on the 1999 flick.

“We all stay in touch in different ways. When you grow up with someone and you get your first breaks with someone, you can never forget that.”

The original trilogy released from 1999-2003, culminating with American Wedding, which saw Jason Biggs’ Jim and Alyson Hannigan’s Michelle tie the knot. The gang got back together again for 2012’s American Reunion, and though that was the last time the core cast were seen in their roles, the franchise continued with a series of five spinoff films, which release under the American Pie Presents banner. Eugene Levy turned up as Jim’s dad in all but the most recent of these, subtitled Girls’ Rules, which dropped on Netflix in 2020. Reid’s just the latest of the cast to reveal that they would be down for another sequel, with Biggs, Shannon Elizabeth and Seann William Scott all saying the same thing. So, it really does seem like a question of when, not if, we’ll get to see American Pie 5 come to fruition.
