A second trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has been released, giving us an trilogy adaptation of The Hobbit.

There’s not a lot of Smaug in the trailer, but it does host a lot of “dwarves vs. elves” action, with some new footage of Legolas (Orlando Bloom), Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly), Thranduil (Lee Pace), and of course, Thorin (Richard Armitage). There’s even a hint at some kind of romance between Legolas and Tauriel that makes its way into the video and also a chills-inducing moment when Bilbo (Martin Freeman) just almost tells Gandalf (Ian McKellen) about his recent discovery of the ring.

I’m dying to know how much Bilbo will use the ring in the movie. I can see it being quite prevalent, but at the same time, I wouldn’t be too surprised if it wasn’t given much importance until the last film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: There And Back Again.

New trailer aside, I’m sincerely hoping that Desolation Of Smaug will be a bit more concise than The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which has a lengthy running time of 169 minutes. I love Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and all things related, and I am sure I’ll enjoy Desolation of Smaug. But, the very nature of a second film in a trilogy has me worried that Desolation will be a lengthy, expository filler that links An Unexpected Journey to There And Back Again.

We don’t have to wait too long to find out, as the film will be released in theaters on December 13, viewable in both 3D and IMAX.
