For Captain Marvel, it seems as if the project is finally about to get off the ground. Mississipi Grind duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have been brought in to direct, while Marvel’s casting department has been busy locking down the likes of seemingly be much different to the S.H.I.E.L.D. leader that fans are familiar with from previous MCU films.
And they’ll all report to Brie Larson. Yes, the Oscar winning actress is ready to take flight in 2019 and she’s already doing some homework, as evidenced by her recent trip to the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. A few photos of her visit surfaced just yesterday and now, we’ve got even more, which can be seen down below.
Though these pics don’t reveal anything about the film itself, we do know that Captain Marvel has been angled as a period piece, after Kevin Feige told us that the female-led superhero movie will be rooted in the 1990s. Such a break from the established MCU timeline will allow for some exciting storytelling possibilities – like Nick Fury swinging by – all the while offering a neat, standalone adventure that helps fill the gap between Infinity War and Avengers 4.
In regards to what we else can expect from the flick, well, apparently we’ll get to return to the Quantum Realm, which was first introduced back in 2015’s Ant-Man, and gain “a better understanding of Carol Danvers and her place in the MCU.” Beyond that though, details on the project have been hard to come by and we don’t expect to learn anything more for quite a while – given how packed the studio’s slate is.
Captain Marvel graces theatres on March 8th, 2019. There’s a good chance we’ll see Brie Larson take flight as Carol Danvers shortly before, too – not unlike Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther made his debut via Civil War – what with rumors claiming the Oscar winner will crop up in Infinity War. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have denied that, mind you, but when it comes to this kind of stuff, you never really know, right?
