Warner Bros/New Line Cinema has announced the romantic comedy New Year’s Eve for Blu-Ray in May. The film is the second holiday mega-cast production, following Valentine’s Day.

Zac Efron, Halle Berry, Jessica Beil, Katherine Heigl, Hilary Swank, Chris Bridges, John Lithgow and Robert De Niro are just a few of many that star in Gary Marshall‘s New Year’s Eve. I wouldn’t call it an all-star cast, but I’d sure as hell call it a big one, too big if you really think about it.

How are you supposed to structure a story around 20+ people? It’s just a marketing strategy by Warner Bros, to get butts in seats. It worked well for Valentine’s Day, but New Year’s Eve was more of a dud. It came out a little too early and was quickly crushed by a number of other, more deserving movies. I haven’t had a chance to see it yet, but I don’t think I’ll be rushing to pick up the Blu-Ray copy.

Our very own Carina Belles had this to say about the film in her review.

The biggest failure, though, is the stories’ failure to connect. New Year’s Eve sounds good in theory, so how did it become such a poorly constructed mess? Gary Marshall, explain yourself. All in all, a movie that tries so hard to be a celebration of holiday cheer becomes a thinly veiled cash cow for the people who wanted to recreate Valentine’s Day‘s $200 million in ticket sales.

The Blu-Ray/DVD/UltraViolet digital copy combo pack will come with a 1080p video transfer and a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The following supplements have been confirmed.

  • Commentary with Gary Marshall
  • Three behind-the-scenes featurettes (The Magic of Times Square, New Year’s Eve Secret of the Stars, Jon Bon Jovi & Lea Michele Rock New Year’s Eve)
  • Deleted scenes with Gary Marshall
  • Gag reel

New Year’s Eve will be available to own on May 1st, 2012.

I'm an avid watcher of films and I just love discussing and sharing them with the world. I enjoy horror, sci-fi and mostly any genre under the sun, plus I have a slight obsession with Blu-ray's and the whole high definition craze.
